Samsung has announced that it has successfully completed a trial of its AI-powered 5G network optimization technology in partnership with Japanese mobile network operator KDDI. The trial was conducted on KDDIâs 5G Standalone (SA) network and delivered significant improvements in data download speeds.Samsung Networks, the telecommunications network equipment division of Samsung Electronics, tested its AI-powered RAN Speed Optimizer (RSO) technology, which improved download speeds on KDDIâs 5G SA network by more than 31% during peak hours and by as much as 52% in dense urban areas. So, how was this performance improvement achieved? Samsung Networks AI-Powered RAN Speed Optimizer (RSO) structure – Source: Samsung Electronics Unlike traditional optimization techniques that apply the same parameters across all cell clusters, RSO uses an AI-based prediction algorithm to analyze network site data and recommend customized parameters for each individual cell. By automatically adapting to changing network conditions, it also improves overall network efficiency.RSO is part of Samsung CognitiVâs Network Operations Suite (NOS), a collection of AI-powered automation and intelligent network management tools. KDDI and Samsung Networks plan to continue evaluating the technology to help transform KDDIâs 5G network into an AI-native infrastructure. Earlier, the companies worked on network slicing and enterprise 5G networks.
