Disney World Confirms Major EPCOT Closure: Guests Turned Away Starting This September

Wait 5 sec.

For many Walt Disney World fans, EPCOT is the park where a visit naturally slows down. Instead of racing from ride to ride, guests often spend the day exploring pavilions, discovering new flavors, and enjoying experiences unlike anything else on Disney property. That is why news of an upcoming closure at the park is likely to catch plenty of attention.Beginning this September, one popular EPCOT experience will disappear from the lineup. While the closure won’t be permanent, it will mean guests hoping to enjoy this fan-favorite location will have to make other plans until it returns later in the year.A Big Part of the EPCOT ExperienceEPCOT has always stood apart from Disney’s other Florida parks because food is just as much of the attraction as the rides and entertainment. Many guests build their entire day around dining reservations, festival booths, and snacks found throughout the park.World Showcase remains one of the biggest draws, giving visitors the chance to sample cuisine inspired by 11 different countries without ever leaving Florida. Whether someone wants authentic pastries in France, sushi in Japan, tacos in Mexico, or fish and chips in the United Kingdom, there is no shortage of choices. That variety has helped make EPCOT one of the top dining destinations at Walt Disney World. It’s common for guests to spend hours simply eating and drinking around World Showcase while taking in live entertainment and exploring each pavilion. But not every memorable meal at EPCOT is found around World Showcase. One longtime restaurant in World Nature has earned a loyal following thanks to an atmosphere unlike any other at Walt Disney World.Credit: Paul Hudson, FlickrOne of Disney World’s Most Unique MealsCoral Reef Restaurant has been welcoming guests for decades, and while the menu has changed over the years, one thing has remained the same: the incredible setting.Located inside The Seas pavilion, the restaurant overlooks the massive aquarium that serves as the backdrop for every meal. Instead of looking out a traditional window, diners watch thousands of marine animals swim through one of the largest saltwater aquarium environments in the United States.Sea turtles, rays, colorful tropical fish, and even sharks regularly glide past the restaurant’s oversized viewing windows. The constantly changing scenery means every meal feels a little different, making Coral Reef one of EPCOT’s most distinctive table-service locations.Families often enjoy introducing children to underwater views, while adults appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, offering a break from the busy park outside. It has become a tradition for many repeat visitors who make a reservation every vacation simply because there is nothing else quite like it.Unfortunately, guests planning a fall trip will soon find those doors closed.Credit: DisneyDisney Has Confirmed the ClosureDisney has officially announced that Coral Reef Restaurant will temporarily close beginning September 8, 2026.According to the Coral Reef Restaurant webpage: “Coral Reef Restaurant will be temporarily closed beginning September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in 2026.”Disney has not shared additional details about why the restaurant is closing or what work will take place during the temporary shutdown. The company has also not provided a reopening date, other than confirming that it expects the restaurant to reopen before the end of the year. That means anyone with vacations planned after September 8 should be aware that reservations will no longer be available until Disney completes the project and reopens the restaurant.Temporary refurbishments like this are common across Walt Disney World as Disney continues maintaining restaurants, attractions, and resorts while keeping the parks operating throughout the year.Credit: DisneyPlenty of EPCOT Dining Choices Will Still Be AvailableAlthough Coral Reef Restaurant will be unavailable for part of the fall, EPCOT certainly won’t leave guests without excellent dining options.World Showcase alone offers an impressive collection of table-service and quick-service restaurants spanning 11 countries. Guests can enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine at San Angel Inn Restaurante, steak at Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada, family-style meals at Biergarten Restaurant in Germany, or Italian favorites at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria. Those looking for signature dining can also reserve Space 220, where the themed experience transports diners aboard a fictional space station overlooking Earth. Garden Grill Restaurant continues to offer its rotating dining room and character meals inside The Land pavilion. At the same time, Connections Eatery provides one of the park’s largest quick-service menus near the front of EPCOT.Seasonal festivals add even more options throughout much of the year. Outdoor kitchens often introduce dozens of limited-time dishes that encourage guests to snack as they explore the park, giving visitors even more opportunities to try something new. With so many choices available, most guests will still have no trouble finding an excellent meal, even if one longtime favorite is temporarily unavailable.Credit: Sarah Larson, Inside the MagicA Short-Term Closure for a Longtime FavoriteWhile no one enjoys seeing a favorite restaurant temporarily close, Coral Reef Restaurant’s downtime appears to be just that—a temporary pause rather than a permanent goodbye. For longtime Disney fans, the restaurant has become much more than simply a place to eat. Watching sea life drift past enormous windows while enjoying lunch or dinner has made it one of EPCOT’s signature dining experiences for generations of visitors.Beginning September 8, 2026, however, guests hoping to dine beneath the sea will need to adjust their plans until Disney welcomes diners back later this year. In the meantime, EPCOT’s incredible collection of restaurants across World Showcase and the rest of the park should ensure plenty of memorable meals are still waiting for visitors. The post Disney World Confirms Major EPCOT Closure: Guests Turned Away Starting This September appeared first on Inside the Magic.
