Disney’s Hollywood Studios has spent the past several years reinventing itself, with new attractions, themed lands, and entertainment steadily changing the park’s identity. Now, Disney has confirmed that another major piece of that transformation is nearing completion.Guests have already seen part of the project come to life, but the latest update shows there is still more work happening behind the scenes before the full experience is ready. That matters because Disney isn’t simply bringing back a familiar attraction. Instead, it’s taking a concept that many longtime fans remember and rebuilding it for a new generation of visitors. The newest construction update makes it clear Disney is continuing to invest in one of Hollywood Studios’ biggest upcoming additions, giving fans another reason to keep an eye on the park in the months ahead.Credit: gardener41, FlickrA Fresh Take on a Disney FavoriteThe upcoming Magic of Disney Animation experience is one of the most interesting examples of Disney looking to its past while designing for today’s guests.Years ago, The Magic of Disney Animation gave visitors a chance to learn about the animation process while even catching glimpses of real artists working inside the studio. Although that version eventually disappeared, Disney is now bringing the name back with a completely different approach.Rather than focusing on behind-the-scenes production, the new experience is designed to be far more interactive for families. It also serves as one of the centerpieces of the reimagined Walt Disney Studios Courtyard, an area inspired by the real Walt Disney Studios campus in California.Disney has already reopened the courtyard itself, giving guests their first look at the refreshed space. The redesigned entrance features a giant Sorcerer Hat as its centerpiece, creating an entirely different atmosphere from the version fans have known for years.Right next door, Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! is already welcoming young visitors, helping to establish the area as a destination for families and younger Disney fans.Credit: DisneyInside the New Animation ExperienceWhile Disney has confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation will debut this summer, it has not announced an official opening date. The attraction will feature several new experiences spread throughout the building. One of the biggest additions is Drawn to Wonderland, an Alice in Wonderland-themed playground inspired by the colorful artwork of legendary Disney artist Mary Blair. Disney recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at construction on the play area, giving fans a preview of what’s still being completed inside. The attraction will also include a reimagined Animation Academy. Olaf will host, with pre-recorded guidance from Disney Animation artists.Beyond that, Disney plans to introduce six new character meet-and-greet locations inside the building. Some characters currently greeting guests in the courtyard are expected to move indoors once the attraction officially opens, creating a more permanent home for those encounters.Together, the indoor experiences and the surrounding courtyard represent Disney’s latest effort to modernize an attraction that many longtime visitors still remember fondly while making it more engaging for today’s families.Credit: DisneyDisney Confirms Construction Is Still Moving ForwardAlthough much of the surrounding area has already opened, Disney has now confirmed that there is still work to be done.Walt Disney World recently filed two new construction permits tied directly to The Magic of Disney Animation. One permit covers the attraction itself at 190 Showbiz Boulevard, while the second covers the neighboring building at 200 Showbiz Boulevard. That second building carries some interesting history. During the original version of The Magic of Disney Animation, guests could look through windows into the adjacent facility, where Disney animators worked on feature films. Both newly filed permits were submitted through Disney’s Sourcing & Procurement department and assigned to the Buena Vista Construction Company, Disney’s in-house construction team, to continue the project. According to the filings, crews will provide labor, materials, and electrical work as construction continues.Like most Notices of Commencement filed by Disney, both permits remain valid for one year, suggesting work could continue well beyond the attraction’s eventual opening if additional finishing projects are needed.Credit: DisneyHollywood Studios Continues Its Biggest Transformation in YearsThe Magic of Disney Animation is only one part of the sweeping changes underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.Earlier this year, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets officially opened on May 26, 2026. The updated attraction has quickly become one of the park’s biggest fan favorites, bringing new energy to one of Hollywood Studios’ classic thrill rides while giving the Muppets a prominent new home.At the same time, another longtime area of the park is disappearing.Demolition continues inside the former Muppets Courtyard as Disney clears space for the upcoming Monstropolis expansion inspired by Monsters, Inc. The new land promises to become one of the park’s biggest additions, anchored by Disney’s first suspended roller coaster. The expansion will also recreate several memorable locations from the film, including Harryhausen’s, the sushi restaurant where Sulley accidentally interrupts Mike Wazowski’s date. Bringing recognizable settings into the land should help guests feel as though they’ve stepped directly into Monstropolis.Credit: DisneyA Classic Returns With a New PurposeHollywood Studios has evolved dramatically over the past decade, and Disney shows no signs of slowing down.Instead of simply recreating The Magic of Disney Animation exactly as guests remember it, Imagineers have chosen to preserve the attraction’s spirit while reshaping it for today’s audience. Interactive play spaces, character encounters, and updated experiences now replace traditional studio tours, reflecting how families experience the parks today. With new construction permits now filed, Disney has made it clear that work is still progressing behind the scenes. While fans continue waiting for an official opening date, the return of this familiar name is another reminder that Hollywood Studios is blending nostalgia with new ideas as it builds its next chapter. The post Reviving a ‘Classic’: Disney Officially Moves Forward on Reimagined Hollywood Studios Attraction appeared first on Inside the Magic.
