A woman says a bouncer at a Miami beach club turned her away because of the length of her shorts, even though she claims she saw other women in similar outfits get let inside. The woman, who posts under the username @itz.jskayy, shared the incident in a video that has gathered nearly 400,000 views on TikTok. According to the woman, she and her friends went to Joia Beach Miami wearing outfits they believed followed the club’s dress code. She said a bouncer still denied her entry over what he described as a dress code violation. “Joia Beach just told me I couldn’t get in literally because of the length of my shorts,” she said in the video. Joia Beach is a waterfront restaurant and beach club located on Jungle Island in Miami, known for Mediterranean-inspired food and a strict dress code. Bouncer accused of letting in others with similar outfits In her video, @itz.jskayy claimed that while she was being denied entry, she watched other women wearing shorts of a similar length walk into the club without issue. “When I tell y’all, it was about two to three people that had the same length as my shorts walk in, and he telling me I can’t get in because of my shorts?” she said. She added that her friend questioned the bouncer’s decision, arguing it did not make sense given what other guests were wearing. @itz.jskayy #joia #miami #fyp #pov ♬ original sound – itz.jskayy “Then he wanna start arguing with my friend because my friend said, ‘That don’t even make sense. Her shorts is going over her booty.’ Why the hell y’all got this strict-[expletive] dress code if you’re not even making it clear what the exact dress code is?” she said. The woman also claimed that she had visited Joia Beach the night before the incident and asked staff about the dress code policy. According to her account, a worker told her that swimwear was not allowed, but regular clothing was acceptable before 5 p.m. “We came here last night, and we knew we couldn’t wear swimwear, but they literally said we could wear regular clothes to get in before 5 p.m.,” she said. She described the situation as confusing and appeared visibly upset in parts of the video. Miami’s nightlife and beach club scene has drawn attention for other unusual moments as well, including a case where a bartender described an enormous single-night tip total. Several viewers responded to the video with their own reactions. One commenter wrote, “a dress code at a beach?? yeah they’ll never see me.” Another commenter advised against confrontation, writing, “Don’t argue with nobody to spend your money where you’re not wanted.” A third commenter took a similar stance, saying they would not push back if turned away from a venue. “You ain’t got to tell me no but once. I’m not about to cry about spending my money,” the commenter wrote. South Florida’s airports and travel hubs have also been the backdrop for strange encounters, such as when a traveler found something unsettling on her luggage at Miami International. According to Joia Beach’s website, the club follows a dress code described as “European-inspired, upscale beach chic.” The website states that proper attire is required for entry and that management reserves the right to refuse admission or ask guests to leave if they do not meet dress code guidelines. The website does not appear to give specific examples of acceptable or unacceptable shorts length, though it does list certain banned items by name. According to the site, fishnet cover-ups, offensive clothing, athletic apparel, hoodies, sweatpants, tank tops, cargo pants, and slides worn with socks are not permitted anywhere in the venue. The policy does not mention short shorts specifically, based on the website’s published guidelines. Because the dress code does not list precise rules for shorts length, enforcement may depend on the judgment of individual staff members at the door. As of this writing, neither Joia Beach nor @itz.jskayy has publicly confirmed additional details beyond what was shared in the video and on social media.
