Three in 10 Maltese included anxiety among the emotions that best describe their current emotional state, according to the latest Eurobarometer 2026 survey.The survey, which interviewed 505 people in Malta as part of a wider poll of more than 26,000 EU citizens, found that 30% of Maltese selected anxiety, compared to 21% across the European Union. Respondents were able to choose up to four emotions.Despite anxiety featuring more prominently than the EU average, Maltese were less likely to report uncertainty, with 29% selecting it compared to 44% of respondents across the bloc. Just 8% of Maltese chose anger, almost half the EU average of 15%.At the same time, many respondents also expressed positive emotions. 42% selected hope, 37% chose confidence, and 30% said they felt serene.When asked about the future, 73% of Maltese said they were optimistic about Malta’s future, significantly higher than the EU average of 58%.
