The NBA is full of surprises, as is well documented by now.The Philadelphia 76ers reminded fans of that on Wednesday, as they fleeced the Boston Celtics in a shocking Paul George-Jaylen Brown trade swap. “BLOCKBUSTER: The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on X/Twitter. The fact that the Celtics traded Brown before the 2026-27 campaign isn’t the surprising part. The concept of the 18-time NBA champions only getting an aging, injury-prone contributor in Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks in a deal sending Brown to the 76ers is the true shocker. Clearly, the Celtics and 76ers worked behind the scenes to complete arguably the biggest deal of the summer, as there weren’t any reliable reports that the two parties were contemplating a massive deal. According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the 76ers could get creative and pursue Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James after trading for Jaylen Brown."The Sixers now have a golden opportunity to recruit LeBron James to form a truly lethal starting lineup: Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron, and Joel Embiid,” Sidery wrote. “On paper, it seems like an ideal LeBron destination after that trade.”Acquiring James would be the icing on the cake for Philadelphia, as it would give them a game-changing veteran presence who’s still playing high-level basketball in his early 40s and knows a thing or two about winning championships.Simply put, the 76ers’ Jaylen Brown trade could open the door to an even bigger move for the franchise.
