The most deadly predator of the sea spent its days conquering and terrorizing every creature in sight. This is the megalodon. It lived millions of years ago, but imagine if this monster shark was alive today and instead of hunting ancient sea creatures it is now coming for you.How would the megalodon hunt you down, could your size be your best advantage, and could you survive this attack? This is WHAT IF, and here is what would happen if you were attacked by a megalodon.Megalodons are a force to be reckoned with. Estimates show that they could grow up to 18 meters or 60 feet long. That is three times longer than the largest great white shark ever recorded, not to mention that their jaws could open up to 3.5 meters wide. So do you think you stand a chance against this beast? Well let’s find out.If you happen to find yourself swimming in the ocean and a megalodon is nearby, you might actually be okay at first. There is a chance that since you are so small compared to its usual prey, the megalodon would not think you are worth eating and would instead go for whales or large sharks for a proper meal. But just because you are small does not mean you are safe.A megalodon needed an enormous amount of energy and is estimated to have eaten around 1,200 kilograms of food every day, meaning it would take any opportunity it could get.Now let’s give you a better chance by putting you on a boat. Even with this advantage there are still problems. Being on a boat makes you faster and more stable, but also much easier to spot from below. The megalodon likely hunted using ambush attacks from underneath and with you on a boat it would use the same strategy on you. With its massive 34 ton body it could ram your boat from below flipping and destroying it instantly. Once your boat is gone you are now in the water and the megalodon is hungry for its target. If you happen to get a cut during this situation things get even worse. Like modern sharks the megalodon would likely have had an extremely strong sense of smell and once it detects blood it would lock onto you immediately. No amount of noise or movement would stop its attack. At this point your best chance is to stay calm and swim toward shore or any nearby structure. Your small size could actually help here because in some areas you could hide in coral reefs or tight underwater spaces where a massive predator cannot follow. If you reach shallow water your chances improve even more since the megalodon would struggle to move in tight spaces and might eventually give up the chase. But realistically if you are anywhere near this creature in open water your chances are very low. This was one of the most dangerous predators to ever exist and it makes you wonder if anything could ever stop it. Maybe another ancient giant of the sea like the mosasaur. But that is a story for another WHAT IF.
