Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations is the upcoming DLC for id Software’s latest shooter, and its main goal is to offer players a near-infinite amount of endgame content to satisfy their desire to rip and tear through the deep chasms of hell. And part of that endgame are classic, Doom 2-inspired levels that’ll allow players to traverse time and space and find themselves in the mid-1990s when first-person shooters were just about to get completely revolutionized by id Software and Doom itself. The classic levels are a reward for completing other endgame arenas, as there are six levels total, each complete with a ton of its own brutal content. The classic levels were only briefly shown during a presentation I attended, with director Hugo Martin saying the entire DLC is a “celebration” of the franchise, with each of the games considered canon by the studio. It’s a clash of styles for sure. Image via id Software The graphics of the levels themselves appear to retain that 1990s vibe, while the Slayer himself, as well as some of the enemies and effects, keeps his own modern high-fidelity look. It creates a strong contrast between what was and what we have now, allowing new players to experience the vibes of the old Doom while maintaining its new identity. But the classic levels are not the whole story of Revelations. Its focus is to paint a broader picture of the Doom Guy, whom id Software says is the same person as the dude from the original games. It will have six full levels of content, each of them presented as an interconnected world, and will be much more brutal and difficult than the base game. The DLC adds the spear, new weapon upgrades, and a ton of content that should provide players with well over 10 additional hours of play, with potentially infinite-scaling arenas that you can clear and complete for additional rewards. 0The post Doom: The Dark Ages takes you back to 1994 with classic levels added to its endgame—but that’s not all appeared first on Destructoid.
