Florida man barely makes it out of jail after multiple charges. Then he allegedly decides to make the courthouse his next crime scene

Usually, a high-speed police chase is a once-in-a-lifetime event — if you’re not a cop. Some would argue that experience is exactly why most people don’t stand much of a chance against law enforcement. But Jefry Julian Chaucanes Vasquez, 23, is a rare exception. He didn’t just lead police on two separate pursuits in his lifetime—he allegedly did it twice in the same week. He even stole an SUV straight out of a courthouse parking lot. The Florida native was first arrested on June 9 after driving a Mazda sedan at 90 mph on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 80. When deputies attempted to pull him over, Vasquez allegedly accelerated to 125 mph instead. During the pursuit, investigators say he drove recklessly, even forcing other motorists off the road. He was caught and booked The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office eventually brought the chase to an end using tire spikes. Vasquez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, reckless driving, excessive speeding, and possession of a controlled substance after deputies allegedly found two THC vape cartridges. People often make terrible decisions while under the influence. That’s one of the reasons driving while impaired is illegal. Most people would take an arrest like this as a wake-up call, face the consequences, and figure out how to move forward. According to Back Fire News, Vasquez had other plans. This time, however, authorities appear to have concluded that he wasn’t simply a petty rule-breaker. On June 12, shortly after being released from the Monroe County Jail, investigators say he burglarized a vehicle in the Plantation Key Courthouse parking lot to steal an iPhone charger. Apparently, a charger wasn’t all he needed — he also needed a ride home. But instead of calling an Uber with his freshly charged phone, police allege he doubled down on his bad decisions. Investigators say Vasquez then stole a Ford SUV from the courthouse parking lot and drove away. By around 5 p.m. that same day, he was once again on U.S. 1, this time with the Florida Highway Patrol in pursuit. Troopers were again able to apprehend him and take him back into custody, fortunately without anyone on the highway suffering serious injuries. Authorities have not offered any explanation for Vasquez’s alleged behavior. Unlike the first pursuit, officials have not said he was under the influence of any controlled substance during the second incident, leaving his motive unclear. He was denied bond As he awaits his next court appearance, Vasquez now faces additional charges, including burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding, theft, and multiple traffic-related offenses. Grand Theft Auto VI has famously been delayed for years. Perhaps that’s where these kinds of stunts belonged in the first place. Instead, if this string of alleged crimes continues, Vasquez may end up seeing Grand Theft Auto VII on store shelves before he sees freedom again. This time, authorities decided not to take any chances. He was denied bond and remains behind bars.
