Man drops $54K on GTA 6 pre-orders to resell at triple the price. Nobody has told him yet

Wait 5 sec.

A video circulating on TikTok shows a man saying he spent $54,720 pre-ordering 500 copies of GTA 6, with plans to resell them at a markup once the game launches. The clip was posted by a TikTok user under the handle @hai.on.life, and had been viewed more than 2 million times with nearly 6,000 comments at the time of writing. A receipt displayed at the top of the screen shows a subtotal of $49,995.00 for 500 items, a tax of $4,725.00, and a total of $54,720.00. A text overlay on the clip reads, “Bro just dropped $55,000 on GTA6 preorder. Here’s why.” Hai reacts to the clip of the person who claims to have spent $54k on GTA 6 pre-orders. The background video then shows the reseller explaining how he arrived at his plan. Reseller says he withdrew from his 401k to fund the purchase The reseller said, “I decided to get into reselling. I was thinking, let me withdraw from my 401k and buy 500 copies of GTA 6.” He went on to say, “I’m thinking this is the most anticipated game. Yep, it’s going to be sold out. They going to have to come to me to go ahead and buy, cuz they’re not going to know where else to get it.” The reseller said he expects to profit significantly from the resale. “You see the amount I spent? I’m going to make triple that. Triple. More than that. That little money I just spent, that’s nothing. Like, nothing. I’m gonna get all that back and then some,” he said, the clip. He added, “So it’s like, once you go start up, come holla at me.” @hai.on.life Brilliant plan, but who’s gonna tell him? #gta6 #gta #gaming #videogames #gtavi ♬ Dark Suspense – Suspense Sound Lab Hai then turns to the camera and asks, “Who’s gonna tell him? Who’s gonna let my man know?” He then explains what he describes as a flaw in the reseller’s plan. “Bro, there’s no physical discs. It’s digital only. It’s never going to run out of copies. It’s infinite,” the reactor said. He added, “Congratulations on owning 500 copies of GTA 6 Deluxe Edition.” According to Rockstar Games, as reported by the BBC, physical copies of GTA 6 will in fact, be available, though they will contain a code for a digital download rather than a disc. This detail was not addressed in the reaction video, and it is unclear whether the reseller’s plan accounted for this distribution format. GTA 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November. The game became available for pre-order at midnight on 25 June. Anticipation for the release has built steadily since Rockstar’s gameplay trailers, including discussion around the classic rock song featured in the trailer.  It is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with no confirmed date for a PC version. Pricing was set at £69.99 in the UK and $79.99 in the US, with an ultimate edition priced at £89.99 and $99.99, respectively. The clip adds to a wider pattern of GTA-related content going viral online, including videos of fans recreating GTA V in real life.  The video has drawn thousands of comments, with several users rightly questioning whether the alleged purchase described in the clip actually happened. One commenter wrote, “He never placed the order.” A reply to that comment said the receipt shown in the video only displayed a “CONFIRM pre order” screen rather than confirmation of a completed purchase. Other commenters echoed the reactor’s point about the game’s format. A user commented, “Digital copies don’t run out. Ouch.” Another user wrote, “has to be satire,” suggesting the video may not depict a real transaction.
