Genius visual artist Viktor Antonov posthumously blesses our eyes one last time with a new game

Wait 5 sec.

Guns of Eschaton, developed by Eschatology Entertainment, which was initially founded by the late Viktor Antonov and colleagues, has finally been revealed. Antonov, who died in 2025 at the age of 53, was a genius art director who brought us some of the most recognizable landscapes in video game history, including Half-Life 2‘s City 17 and Dishonored‘s Dunwall. Antonov founded the studio in 2022, and his “final game and final vision,” as the trailer calls it, was revealed today. It’s a western game carrying strong horror and southern gothic undertones, something Antonov is very familiar with. The very first cityscape we see immediately recalls Dunwall and City 17. Dilapidated shantytowns cower in the shadows of brutalist industry, dying trees are the only sign of life, and dominance through architecture is presented as a testament to the state of this decrepit world. The game also apparently weaves in maritime vibes as well, further elevating that sense of Dishonored and its whaling-inspired environments. Guns of Eschaton, apart from looking beautiful and haunting, is a first-person shooter set across a wide variety of fantastical locations and can be played either solo or in co-op with a friend. Enemies appear to be primarily monstrous, as if the world itself sprang to life and embodied all the malice, but there are some humans and humanoid-passing creatures as well. There’s also a ton of customization, abilities, and what seem to be actual spells, offering players diverse and ever-changing combat and gameplay. It’s really, really interesting, and I cannot wait to see more and bask in the terrible glory of a world made by one of the most talented and influential artists in video game history. 0The post Genius visual artist Viktor Antonov posthumously blesses our eyes one last time with a new game appeared first on Destructoid.
