Car importers are reportedly urging the government to allow WT Global back onto ride-hailing platforms such as Bolt, Uber and eCabs amid concerns over millions of euros in outstanding debts.According to Times of Malta, WT Global’s fleet of around 350 vehicles was largely financed through loans, with sources claiming the company owes car importers millions of euros.The company has been unable to operate since Transport Malta enforced the suspension of its operator’s licence, preventing its vehicles from offering ride-hailing services.WT Global’s licence was first suspended in January 2025 after Transport Malta found the company had listed premises as public service garages that allegedly did not meet regulatory requirements. Although the company temporarily continued operating while challenging the decision in court, the Administrative Review Tribunal later ruled that Transport Malta was justified in enforcing the suspension.Company owner Walid Ouhida said WT Global has continued meeting essential expenses despite having no income, claiming the suspension has already cost the company around €2.4 million.He added that the company remains committed to settling all outstanding financial obligations once operations resume and said it remains confident the suspension will eventually be lifted through legal proceedings.Do you think WT Global should be allowed back on ride-hailing apps while the case continues?•
