Jordan Henderson has been tipped to become a coach at the end of his playing career as he is the ‘full package’.England assistant Anthony Barry believes that Henderson could even end up taking his role under Thomas Tuchel.Henderson has been tipped to become a coach in the futureGettyThe 36-year-old midfielder was somewhat of a surprise inclusion in the Three Lions’ squad for the World Cup this summer. So far this tournament, he has only played 12 minutes, with him not expected to feature again after suffering a horror arm break during the celebrations following a 3-2 win over Mexico. But Tuchel admitted when selecting him that his inclusion wasn’t fully based on his ability on the pitch, rather the fact that his leadership and personality are such a key part of the camp. And that’s something that assistant Barry echoed, singing Henderson’s praises and tipping him to take up a role like his when he eventually decides to hang up his boots.Barry told talkSPORT’s England correspondent Faye Carruthers in Kansas City: “I see everything in Jordan.“I’m so in awe of him as a player, a person and also maybe a future coach. It’s maybe more of a question for Jordan.”He added: “He has it all, he’s the full package, he’s a serial winner as a player and an elite person off the pitch.“And when it comes to football IQ, he can really hold court with anyone and the best of them. “So the future is bright for Jordan, I’m sure. Maybe one day he takes my seat, kicks me off, and Thomas replaces me.“But if I was to be replaced by Jordan, it would be a fantastic pick.”Barry even thinks Henderson could take his job as Tuchel’s assistantGetty‘A special moment’As mentioned, Henderson will not be playing again for England at the World Cup due to his freak arm injury. He broke his radius after falling over the hoardings at the Azteca Stadium last Sunday night during the post-match celebrations following the Three Lions’ incredible 3-2 victory. After he picked up the injury, his teammates called for medical attention and circled him, covering him from cameras. It was a concerning scene, but one that showed how much love the England squad have for Henderson – and Barry believes it was a standout moment that epitomised his popularity.Barry said: “For me it was one of the most special moments of the tournament, mixed emotions, to see Jordan fall.“I knew straight away that he’d hurt himself. I still had the emotion of winning the game, but I knew he was hurt and then it was back on the rollercoaster of emotions.Barry believes the reaction to Henderson’s injury shows exactly what the squad think of himGetty“To see our players, the way they reacted, the way they protected Jordan and switched from celebration into protection mode around him…to see 26 players and staff, it was an incredible moment.“It says everything about Jordan. All of the players wanted to be with him, to protect him and support him.”Henderson won’t be on the pitch for England as they continue their knockout stage at the World Cup with a quarter-final.But he’s sure to play a part in the dressing room and on the touchline when the Three Lions face Norway on Saturday night.talkSPORT will have live commentary of the game from Miami, with kick-off at the Hard Rock Stadium set for 10pm UK time. You can listen to talkSPORT through the website and via the talkSPORT app, on DAB digital radio, through your smart speaker and on 1089 or 1053 AM.World Cup WhatsAppDon't miss an update from talkSPORT in our dedicated World Cup WhatsApp channel.Search for ‘talkSPORT World Cup’ in your ‘Updates’ tab on WhatsApp and we’ll drop the proper, unfiltered football chat straight to your lock screen—no fluff, just pure talkSPORT energy. It’s where you’ll find out all the new rules to watch out for, England and Scotland reaction and big match player ratings.
