Retirement beckons for future Hall of Famer despite desperate plea to make NFL dream come true

Von Miller appears to have made it clear which NFL team he wants to land with next. The 37-year-old is destined to wind up in Canton, Ohio in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after a stellar 14-year career, in which he has won two Super Bowls. Von Miller isn’t ready to retire from playing football just yetGettyBut the veteran pass rusher isn’t ready to call it quits just yet. Now a free agent after his one-year contract with the Washington Commanders expired, Miller is on the hunt for a new team, and appears to have signaled his dream landing destination – the Dallas Cowboys. Hailing from DeSoto, Texas, which is just south of Dallas, a return to his hometown team would be a fitting, and full-circle, end to his career. He said just as much in a cryptic Instagram post in which he posted an image of himself wearing a No. 24 Cowboys jersey, three emojis, including the cowboy as well as using the song “They Don’t Know” by Paul Wall, featuring Mike Jones.View Tweet: https://x.com/ZachWolchuk?ref_src=twsrc%5EtfwThe significance of this song in particular is the plethora of references to the state of Texas. However, the feeling internally is that owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys brass are not too keen on bringing the lobbying Miller into the organization, according to Cowboys staff writer Nick Eatman.“Now, from what I’ve been told, there isn’t much interest right now from the Cowboys’ side,” Eatman wrote. “But let’s get to training camp and see if it appears there is a need for better rushers off the edge. “If so, I wouldn’t doubt the Cowboys will look for outside options and this one might actually top the list.”Despite this, Eatman personally feels it would be great to bring in a player of Miller’s caliber, even though he is aging, due to the championship pedigree he has and the experience he brings. “But the real question you want to know and really we all do – would that move actually make sense? Honestly, I don’t think the Cowboys would be in a situation to ignore it,” he wrote. Miller won one of his two Super Bowls with the Rams in 2021GettyMiller is still productive in Year 14 in the NFLGetty“Yeah, you can look at his age at 37 years old, but the number that matters more to me is the nine sacks he had just last year. … I mean, until he shows you that he’s really slowing down, then I think some NFL team should give him a shot. “And in saying that, why not the Cowboys – a team that he not only wants to play for considering his Texas ties, but a team that was terrible on defense last year and still have plenty of questions to answer regarding a pass rush.“Sure, I think the likes of Rashan Gary and Ezeiruaku and Malachi Lawrence and even Sam Williams should give them a boost off the edge. But I wouldn’t hate it if the Cowboys entertained this.”Miller admits ‘regret’ over signing with CommandersIn 2025, Miller suited up for all 17 games for the Commanders, in which he registered 42 tackles and 15 QB hits – his best output in those two categories since the 2021 Super Bowl-winning season when at the Los Angeles Rams – and six tackles for loss. Despite this, the Commanders won just five games, and their defense gave up 384.0 yards a game – the most in the NFL – which left Miller expressing regret over signing with the NFC East team. Entering the 2025 campaign, he had to decide whether to sign with the Commanders or with the Seattle Seahawks, and opted for the former due to feeling that they had the best chance to compete for a Super Bowl. Miller had an opportunity to play for the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks where he could have perhaps won his third ringAFP“I only got two offers last year. I have one contract offer from the Washington Commanders,” Miller told Steve Smith Sr and James Palmer on the 89 podcast. “That’s when I went and played. And I had one offer from the Seattle Seahawks. And obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one. It would have been three teams, three different teams with three Super Bowls. But that’s just how it’s supposed to be.“Commanders QB Jayden Daniels enjoyed a stellar rookie season out of LSU, in which he led Washington to the NFC Conference Championship, with Miller therefore of the belief that he “was poised for another great season.”But as Daniels’ campaign was thwarted by injury, and the Commanders failed to reach the playoffs, the Seahawks soared to glory, lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season. Now, Miller hopes that he can sign with Dallas, who had the third-worst defense in the league last season, allowing 377.0 yards per game, and a league-high 30.1 points per game, though he will be hoping he can help instill change in the organization on that front. If he can’t he will hope another team offers him a chance, or retirement may come sooner that star rusher had hoped for.Stay up to date on all things NFL across our talkSPORT platforms – subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news, opinion, exclusive interviews and our daily unfiltered, unscripted show ‘The S* Word, from 8am ET.
