A woman who goes by “Is Lauren Your Lawyer?” on TikTok, whose real name appears to be Lauren, said in a video that she attended a wedding as a plus one where a stranger stood up during the ceremony and objected. Lauren said she did not know the couple getting married, and had only gone along as a favor to a friend whose husband could not attend. Lauren said in the video that her friend invited her to the wedding of one of her co-workers after her friend’s husband had to deal with a family matter. Lauren said she agreed to go, describing the event as a daytime wedding held outdoors in a garden. According to Lauren, the ceremony began normally, with bridesmaids, groomsmen, and family members walking down the aisle before the bride arrived. Lauren said everything appeared to be going smoothly until the officiant asked the traditional question about whether anyone objected to the marriage. Officiant’s traditional question was reportedly followed by an unexpected response Lauren said the officiant asked, “Is there anyone present who knows of a lawful reason why these two should not be joined in holy matrimony? Speak now or forever hold your peace.” She said the bride playfully looked into the crowd and the guests responded with a light laugh, expecting the ceremony to move forward as normal. @lauren_thelawyer I’m still in disbelief. But Lauren said a woman in the back of the venue then stood up and said, “Well, I actually have an objection.” Lauren said she grabbed her friend’s knee in shock as the ceremony was interrupted. She said she did not know anyone at the wedding, so she recounted the story based only on what she learned as it unfolded. In another case, a Rochester woman drove to another state for a friend’s wedding only to find out she wasn’t on the guest list. Lauren said the objecting woman claimed that the groom’s brother had gotten married about a year earlier, and that “some unspeakable things happened” at that brother’s bachelor party. According to Lauren, the woman alleged that the groom cheated on his now-bride, who was his fiancée at the time, with her during that trip. The woman said she became pregnant during that encounter and also said the groom gave her a sexually transmitted infection, which Lauren referred to in the video as an “itchy birdie scratchy.” Lauren said the woman claimed the groom knew about both the pregnancy and the infection, and allegedly agreed to pay her in exchange for her silence. Lauren said the woman claimed she ultimately had an abortion, and that the groom agreed to cover the related costs along with a monthly stipend for a year. She added that the woman said the groom eventually stopped sending the payments, which she said was her reason for showing up at the wedding. Lauren said the crowd reacted with gasps and questions as the bride began crying. She said the ceremony went into “intermission” as the bride, her bridesmaids, and family members from the bride’s side left the area. Lauren said she stayed seated on the groom’s side, unsure of what was happening around her. Describing her own confusion as an outsider to the couple, Lauren said, “Girl, where you got me at?” After about an hour, Lauren said the groom took the microphone and told guests he did not know the woman personally. According to Lauren, the groom said the woman was “unwell” and suggested she may have been part of a social media trend involving people crashing weddings to disrupt them. Lauren said the groom told guests he did not know the woman “from a can of paint” and asked everyone to allow the ceremony to continue. Lauren said she and her friend ultimately chose to stay for the rest of the event. She said they watched the couple exchange vows and complete the ceremony, and later stayed for the reception. Lauren described it in the video as a wedding she would “never forget.” A similar dispute involved a couple who charged guests $300 a night for a destination wedding, then told them to cook their own meals. Later in the video, Lauren said she works as a personal injury attorney and mentioned she had been busy following the Fourth of July holiday due to car accidents and fireworks-related injuries. She also said she owns a press-on nail company in addition to her law firm, and mentioned an upcoming announcement planned for later in July or in August. The video drew thousands of comments from viewers reacting to the story. One commenter wrote, “They’ll be divorced in a year.” Another user commented, “I can’t believe she agreed to go forward.” A user who identified as an officiant wrote, “As an Officiant, I don’t include this section in my script. It’s not about what they think, it’s about my couple!”
