As day nine of Yorgen Fenech’s trial by jury continues, Daphne Caruana Galizia’s sister Mandy Mallia has shared an emotional reflection on the harrowing testimony heard in court.Reflecting on yesterday’s proceedings, Mallia wrote that words such as “a leg”, “a foot”, “a hand”, “the body”, “the victim”, “the bomb” and “the explosion” were repeatedly heard as witnesses recounted the aftermath of Daphne’s assassination. She described a courtroom filled with different reactions as witnesses, including a man who testified he heard Daphne’s scream at the moment of the explosion, gave evidence.Mallia also recalled the day of her sister’s murder in October 2017, remembering her elderly father insisting on watching the news despite her trying to dissuade him.“That evening was the first time in my life that I ever saw my usually steadfast father crying,” she wrote, recalling how he realised the white sheets shown on television were covering parts of Daphne’s body. She ended her post by remembering happier family moments spent together before the assassination and renewing her call for justice.“The reality is that there should have been many more such happy gatherings, because Daphne should never have been killed, less still in such a barbaric way. Justice – with the full force allowed at law – is the least she deserves. It is already long overdue.”Yorgen Fenech has pleaded not guilty to charges that he masterminded the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, who was killed in a car bomb attack on 16th October 2017.•
