Don't know. I mentioned to him that most writers worked until their initial sales: Steven King did odd jobs; Harry Turtledove was a history professor, SM Stirling a lawyer. Also King was writing back in high school while this guy never did so until he decided to be a writer and not work. His knowledge is probably obsolete today with crisper and other technology.
