Jude Bellingham was the man of the moment as he fired England into the World Cup semi-finals.The 23-year-old scored twice as the Three Lions beat Norway 2-1 after extra-time in Miami.Bellingham was named man-of-the-match for his performance against NorwayGettyEven better news for England was that Bellingham avoided a yellow card that would have ruled him out of the semi-final.The midfielder was one of four players walking a tight-rope ahead of the game, but all are available to face Argentina on Wednesday. Now Bellingham has revealed that his mum, Denise, was to thank for his clean record against Norway.Speaking after the game, he said: “My mum’s been telling me all week to watch my language, watch my tackles, watch my face, watch my emotions.“I think she drilled it into me all week about being careful of that yellow card.”Bellingham vs TuchelThree Lions boss Thomas Tuchel was not overly thrilled with his team’s performance in Miami.“We are in the last four. It’s amazing but [I am] not happy with the performance – in every sense,” Tuchel said after the game. And Bellingham appeared to give his manager a little rebuke. When asked about his manager’s comments, Bellingham replied: “Yeah well, whatever.“It’s difficult out there, it’s a tough shift. All the players have put in a tough shift. My thoughts and appreciation goes to the players out there who put in a great shift.”Bellingham has scored six goals at the 2026 World CupGettytalkSPORT verdictBellingham’s comments after the win over Norway have split opinion among talkSPORT pundits.Former England defender Stuart Pearce said: “He’s given his point of view, but for me it’s undermining the manager. I don’t think it’s good. I think we’ve come out of the game. “We’ve not played particularly well in the game, but we’ve won and we’re going through to a semi-final.“Jude’s done brilliantly in the game. He’s got a couple of goals and got us over the line, which is fantastic and helps drive a team, but sometimes at the end of that I don’t think it’s helpful to make the statements that he did because all it does is prick the ears of the media that that might want to potentially drive a wedge between him and the manager.”In response, talkSPORT commentator Jim Proudfoot defended Bellingham and argued that he did not have the full context. He said: “I’m going to come to Jude’s defence here because hasn’t heard the words that Thomas Tuchel has used in his post-match interview, which he is then being asked about. So he hasn’t heard the words. “He hasn’t heard the context in the way that those words were delivered. Had he done so and heard it in full I think his answers might have been slightly different.“So I’ll come to Jude’s defence in that I think in the heat of the moment with the job having been done in the way that stuff may have been reported to him and almost a breakdown in communication, I think along the lines that something’s got lost in translation somewhere. “I think that maybe it has been a factor in this and that any potential perceived rift actually will be very quickly smoothed over. “Maybe he could have, in the cold light of day and it’s very easy for us to say, just straight batted some of those questions away a bit more.”World Cup WhatsAppDon't miss an update from talkSPORT in our dedicated World Cup WhatsApp channel.Search for ‘talkSPORT World Cup’ in your ‘Updates’ tab on WhatsApp and we’ll drop the proper, unfiltered football chat straight to your lock screen—no fluff, just pure talkSPORT energy. It’s where you’ll find out all the new rules to watch out for, England and Scotland reaction and big match player ratings.
