Racing fans are absolutely spoilt for choice on Saturday and we have three high quality meetings to look forward to across the afternoon, hosted by Newmarket, York and Ascot. There’s Group race action across all three meetings and the race of the day is the July Cup, but don’t miss the John Smith’s Cup at York or Ascot’s Group 2 feature, the Summer Mile. Our expert has selected three tips to follow away from Newmarket and amongst them is a William Haggas runner who can thrive, having been dropped slightly in grade on Saturday.talkSPORT offer: Get up to £30 in free bets on racingSaturday’s Ascot Tips – July 112.27 Ascot – More Thunder @ 11/8 3.45 York – Warrant Holder @ 9/2 4.55 York – Tabletalk @ 2/1 2.27 Ascot – More Thunder @ 11/8William Haggas is always a trainer who rises to the big occasion and the very useful MORE THUNDER looks well set for a return to winning ways in the Summer Mile. This son of Night Of Thunder began last season as a handicapper and progressed into a Group-race performer. He landed the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over 7f last August and although it wasn’t the deepest race for the grade, he got the job done in good style. Things didn’t go precisely to plan either, as he had to overcome a slow start, but he scored by a comfortable margin.Fourth in the Prix de la Foret after that at Longchamp, he kept on well after starting slowly once again. Going up to a mile this year has proved to be a good idea and he was only half-a-length away from landing the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot last time out.A similar effort should be enough in this lower grade and it would be a little disappointing if the five-year-old fails to get the job done.3.45 York – Warrant Holder @ 9/2The John Smith’s Cup looks like a thoroughly competitive affair and it’s no surprise, as there’s £200,000 on offer. John & Thady Gosden are set to unleash Royal runner WARRANT HOLDER and the four-year-old bumped into one when second at Royal Ascot last time behind Opportunity in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes. The 1m4f trip seemed to stretch him a little bit on that occasion, although he has won over a similar trip in the past. A 6lb rise puts him in the category of Listed or Group level performer, so the gelding will be forced to go up in grade sooner rather than later. It’s likely that the best is yet to come from him, as he remains lightly raced for his age and has had just four starts in handicap company so far. Victorious over course and distance on seasonal debut in May, a return to winning ways is forecast here.4.55 York – Tabletalk @ 2/1Tom Clover’s TABLETALK could be the one to side with in the Group 3 John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes and he brings some decent form to the table. Connections decided to run him in the 2024 Derby off the back of his Chelmsford maiden success as a three-year-old, although he finished 19 lengths behind City Of Troy. The son of Camelot managed to win the very valuable Melrose Stakes over this course and distance later that season and many of his better efforts have come over this sort of trip. Third in this race last year, the 2026 renewal looks significantly easier.Clover’s gelding ran a cracker to finish second in a very valuable Group 2 in Saudi Arabia back in February and his narrow defeat at the hands of Gregory here last time out over C&D was a good effort. Another big run is anticipated and he can come out on top this time around under Rossa Ryan.talkSPORT offer: Get up to £30 in free bets on racingVisit talkSPORT BET for all the latest horse racing betting odds*all odds correct at time of writing and subject to change*18+ New Customers.
