YSRCP demands salary hike for home guards to ₹30,000 per month - The HinduPublished - July 07, 2026 09:03 pm IST - MACHILIPATNAMThe YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) demanded that the coalition government increase the home guards’ salary to ₹30,000 per month, in line with Telangana State.Speaking to the media, former minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) said home guards are being used as legalised bonded labour in the State with a daily wage of ₹710 and with no other allowance or welfare scheme.“We demand that their salary be increased to ₹30,000 per month in line with what the Telangana government is paying, besides extending welfare schemes like Talliki Vandanam, free education to their children and pensions to dependents. Home guards are not being given travel allowance while on bandobust duty, and this anomaly should be changed,” he said.He alleged that some of the home guards who had taken the written exams and physical fitness tests were not promoted to constables, and urged the government to reconsider this decision.Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh had made a slew of promises during the elections about the working conditions of the police, but not a single promise was kept, he said, adding, “they had promised two days’ leave per month, which should be implemented within a six-month time frame.”Published - July 07, 2026 09:03 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
