By Mulengera ReportersKilak County MP Gilbert Olanya, who is an FDC MP in his 3rd term, was conspicuous at the Tuesday Court session in Kampala as Chris Obore and other jailed former Parliament senior staffers came for their bail application hearing. Olanya told reporters, after the Magistrate adjourned Court to 27th July when the accused persons will be learning more about their case, that he was here to register his appreciation to President Museveni and his son Gen MK for finally cracking the whip on the corrupt. Describing himself as one of the victims of Anita Among-era corruption and dictatorship at Parliament, Olanya said that the former Speaker deserves to end up in the hottest part of hell for her sins. He castigated her for turning Parliament into a place for deals and dirty transactions. She said no issue would be given attention at Parliament without money because the former Speaker treated everything as a transaction. He said this 2026 was the happiest year of his life seeing the evil-minded actors being put in their place and thanked CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba for coming to the rescue of Parliament whose reputation had been soiled and destroyed during Anita Among’s dictatorship and tyranny. He said Anita Among was a crude dictator who used her time as Speaker to preside over a reign of terror at Parliament. That she preferred being feared as opposed to being respected. He said many people, both MPs and staff, knew the wrong that was happening but were too terrified to speak out. For staffers, speaking out meant being fired unilaterally by the former Speaker personally via mere phone call. If anyone exhibited resentment and unwillingness to facilitate and enable her dirty deals, that staff would be fired on phone call there and then. Olanya, who knows a lot because he was a Committee Chairperson who was designated by NUP even when he was from FDC, claimed that many unqualified people were similarly recruited to senior positions by the former Speaker through mere phone call, to replace those who had been fired. He asserted that there was so much rot to the extent that President Museveni and Gen MK need to institute a commission of inquiry to organize public hearings to fully understand what exactly when wrong in the whole country at the instigation of Anita Among. Olanya said the MPs on their own know a lot and need such public hearings to tell the world what they know and saw. He said staff have even much more and only need a platform to share their experiences at the hands of Anita Among, the tyrant, who he said terrorized many people. Olanya said as someone who has been MP for three terms, he is sure it’s not possible for Uganda to ever have a Speaker worse than Anita Among. He also spoke about corruption and the stealing of public funds which had become rampant under dictator Anita Among. He defensively made reference to his fellow Acholi, Leonard Okema who served as Executive Secretary to the Speaker, as one of the victims of what he called Anita Among’s insatiable greed for money and other material things. He said that Okema has on his phone text/WhatsApp messages of Anita Among pressurizing him to pass on billions of Parliament’s cash which had been deposited on his private personal bank account for onward submission to his Principal. Olanya explained that time came and a conscience-conflicted Okema felt enough was enough. That he was tired of his bank account being used to steal the taxpayers’ money for the exclusive benefit of Anita Among. He told his Principal he doesn’t want his account to be used for such missions anymore and Olanya says that Anita Among, who as of that time was seeing herself as Gen Museveni’s co-President, instantly sent him a WhatsApp message. The message indicated that Leonard Okema had to choose between accepting to continue being the conduit for her billions and ceasing to be an employee at Parliament. He chose the job and reluctantly continued being a conduit even when his conscience kept telling him he would one day end up with problems. Olanya explained to journalists that its not hard to understand why the likes of Okema wanted this thing of being used as conduits to stop because Anita Among was always a lone eater who never shared that money with anyone. “She uses your account to access the money and all she does is to direct you to withdraw the whole of it and give it to her. You deliver the money and she says good bye. You walk away with nothing, not even the 10k for the boda boda,” Olanya said in a bid to explain Anita Among’s self-centeredness. Leveraging his experience and seniority, having been MP for three terms, Olanya asserted that Uganda as a country was going to cease to exist if Anita Among had secured another five years to serve as Speaker for the 12th Parliament. He said this is why he can’t thank Gen MK enough for the decisive stand he took to end the madness at the National Assembly. Saying there is still a lot of corruption at other government institutions, Olanya advised Gen MK to continue with the purge targeting the corrupt officials as opposed to targeting and going after opposition leaders and senior citizens like Erias Lukwago and Miria Matembe. He said by fighting corruption alone, Gen MK will beat anyone in the ballot box should he decide to run for President in 2031 or any other time. He said persecuting innocent leaders simply because they have a contrary view diminishes the organic popularity Gen MK was beginning to get at the inception of the anti-Anita Among operations. A diehard Besigye supporter, Olanya didn’t rule out reciprocating all this good work by joining PLU and becoming Gen MK’s supporter should the momentum against the corrupt government officials continue in the coming months and years. He thanked President Museveni for empowering his son Gen MK and for allowing him space to make his contribution which has clearly re-energized the fight against corruption. Claiming to be expressing views shared by many other MPs, Olanya demanded that Okema, Obore and others be released and instead turned into state witnesses to ensure that Anita Among is thoroughly prosecuted because, in his view, she is the disclosed principal on whose behalf they acted. Olanya asserted that Anita Among and Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige are the two people who should be hanged for all the corruption at Parliament because one of them was head of the institution and the other the accounting officer.
