Port unions oppose proposed PPP model for Golden Jubilee Hospital - The HinduUpdated - July 07, 2026 08:32 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAMAll recognised trade unions at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) have jointly opposed the proposed move to operate the Golden Jubilee Hospital under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, alleging that the management has proceeded without consulting the trade unions.Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, representatives of the unions said that the VPA management had earlier attempted to hand over the hospital under the PPP model, but the proposal was unanimously opposed by all registered unions. They highlighted that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had directed the management to take a decision only after holding consultations with the trade unions.The unions alleged that despite the court’s direction, the management had once again initiated the process without taking their views into consideration.According to the unions, sustained opposition had earlier led the management to withdraw the proposal and instead decide to develop the Golden Jubilee Hospital with port funds under the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) model. Reversing that decision and handing over the hospital to a private operator would be detrimental to the interests of employees, workers, pensioners and their family members, they contended.The unions demanded that the VPA immediately withdraw the proposed PPP model and modernise the hospital using port funds. They warned that all recognised trade unions would jointly intensify their agitation if the management failed to reconsider its decision.Published - July 07, 2026 08:31 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
