The policy aims to reduce air pollution by encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles through incentives such as road tax exemptions, registration fee waivers, and scrappage benefits. It also proposes a phased transition away from petrol-powered two-wheelers and conventional auto-rickshaws over the coming years. The initiative is a significant step towards making Delhi cleaner and more environmentally sustainable. However, its success will depend on the availability of adequate charging infrastructure, affordable electric vehicles, reliable electricity supply, and widespread public awareness.Traditional ICE vehicle makers are bound to be jittery, hence it is more than critical that there is no ambiguity or change of stance later by the Delhi government so that they can decide their future plans accordingly. Usage of hybrid cars should also be encouraged by policymakers.Bal GovindNoidaAI sovereigntyWith reference to the interview ‘India will be an application player in AI race’ (July 7), Nasscom Vice-Chairperson Kishore Patil is candid about the state and progress of India in the AI race.However, if India remains an application player, it cannot become a serious sovereign player in the AI race. Without indigenous foundational tech, India will have to rely on external gatekeepers and they will be dictating economic terms and even ethical guardrails. Still worse, the imported frontier AI models are loaded with cultural biases. Hence, it is essential to build indigenous AI stack to ensure India’s technological independence and economic future.Kosaraju ChandramouliHyderabadLapses in oversightApropos ‘What the NMC case means to BoB investors’ (July 7), Bank of Baroda’s $600 million settlement in the NMC affair should trouble more than just its shareholders. That a public sector bank’s Dubai unit could remain entangled in a fraud case for years before a resolution reflects poorly on oversight of overseas operations. Settling without admitting liability may limit legal exposure, but it does not restore investor confidence, especially with nearly a fifth of last year’s profit now at stake. What is needed is tighter RBI scrutiny of Indian banks’ foreign branches and mandatory, regular disclosure of contingent liabilities abroad. Investors deserve early warning, not year-end surprises buried in provisioning.SP Suganya DeviCoimbatorePublished on July 7, 2026Sign into Unlock benefits!Access 10 free stories per monthAccess to comment on every storySign up/Manage to our newslettersGet notified by email for early preview to new features, discounts & offers${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
