The crew, made up of a doctor, paramedic and driver, along with the patient, escaped without serious injuries.MOAS said the incident highlights the extreme dangers faced by humanitarian and medical teams working near the frontlines in Ukraine.“This was a terrifying incident involving a clearly humanitarian medical mission,” said MOAS founder Christopher Catrambone.“Our team was evacuating a critically injured Ukrainian soldier when a Russian FPV drone exploded in the immediate vicinity of the ambulance. We are deeply relieved that our crew and patient survived with only minor injuries, but this is another reminder of the daily danger faced by medics in Ukraine.”MOAS has been operating in Ukraine for more than four years, carrying out critical medical evacuations for seriously wounded patients from frontline areas to hospitals using specially equipped ambulances.By the end of March, the organisation had evacuated and treated more than 84,700 Ukrainian soldiers, recording zero deaths among those it assisted.Founded in Malta in 2014, MOAS first became known for its search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean and has since expanded its humanitarian work to conflict zones around the world.“Today’s attack has shaken us, but it has not weakened our resolve,” Catrambone said. “MOAS will continue to stand with Ukraine and continue its mission to alleviate suffering wherever it can.”•
