Woman sets her expensive Prada glasses down at famous restaurant in Austin. They vanish — and manager allegedly gives different excuses every time

A prestigious restaurant has three primary responsibilities: serve excellent food, maintain a safe environment, and provide top-tier service. A TikTok creator recently took to the platform with a less-than-glowing review of her visit to one of Austin’s best-known restaurants, The Oasis, claiming the venue failed on all three fronts. It’s no easy feat maintaining a 4-plus-star rating on Google with more than 25,000 reviews, but that’s exactly what The Oasis has managed to do. Still, Mariana Yvette told her TikTok followers that her visit turned into “the most expensive night I’ve had in a while” — despite never ordering anything off the menu. They immediately wanted to leave According to Yvette, she and a companion went to the restaurant for “dinner and pictures.” Instead of getting a table, they sat at the bar to watch a World Cup match. That’s when, according to her, things started going downhill. Twenty minutes passed without anyone taking their order. Despite sitting at the bar, she said not even the bartender asked if they wanted a drink. Yvette also said she arrived wearing a pair of white Prada sunglasses. Since it was nighttime and they were indoors, she naturally took them off and placed them on the counter. It was a level of trust she would soon regret. Frustrated by the lack of service, Yvette decided they should simply leave and eat somewhere else. But by then, as you might have guessed, her sunglasses had allegedly disappeared. She then did what most people probably would in that situation — she spoke with restaurant staff. Yvette wanted to review the surveillance footage to determine who had taken her designer sunglasses, which can cost anywhere from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Instead, she says staff told her the manager wasn’t on-site and that she might have to wait until the following day before anyone could review the footage. And the alleged excuses just continued to build from there in the following days. Faced with these responses, she turned to TikTok, where customer complaints have a habit of spreading much faster than they do through customer service channels. @mariana_yvette Management, please review camera footage ASAP. Among the few responses that didn’t contain language unfit for print, one user wrote, “Going to the Oasis to eat was your first mistake.” Another added, “Only good thing about that place is the view. Food is horrible and customer service is just as bad.” Perhaps the most cutting remark was also the shortest: “The most overrated restaurant in Austin.” That label is a difficult one for any restaurant to shake. Once enough customers start repeating it, reputation can become harder to rebuild than the menu itself. Others also claimed that long waits and poor service have become part of the experience at The Oasis. If those comments are representative of the restaurant’s broader reputation, it may be time for management to ask themselves a difficult question: how did a restaurant famous for its views become a place where so many people say the scenery is the only reason to visit?
