Border. stretch of NH 169 - The HinduPublished - July 08, 2026 09:59 pm ISTChikkamagaluru Deputy Commissioner Bhanwar Singh Meena on Wednesday issued an order prohibiting the movement of heavy vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes on the stretch between Tanikod checkpost and S.K. Border on National Highway-169, citing the dilapidated condition of the road, until September 30.The Deputy Commissioner, in his order, said the Executive Engineer of the National Highway Sub-Division, Sringeri, had inspected the stretch and found that minor bridges constructed decades ago had developed cracks, with their protective walls also damaged. The movement of heavy vehicles could cause further damage to the narrow stretch, the order said.The Superintendent of Police, Chikkamagaluru, the Assistant Commissioner of Chikkamagaluru sub-division and the Regional Transport Officer also recommended prohibiting the movement of heavy vehicles on the stretch during the monsoon. Considering their reports, the Deputy Commissioner issued the order.The order also suggested alternative routes for vehicles. Those travelling from Chikkamagaluru can take the Balehonnur–Magundi–Kalasa–Kudremukh route to reach S.K. Border. Those heading to S.K. Border from N.R. Pura can turn towards Balehonnur and reach the destination via Magundi–Kalasa–Kudremukh. Similarly, those starting from Koppa can take the Jayapura–Balehonnur–Magundi–Kalasa–Kudremukh route to S.K.
