Earlier this week, the pop world was rocked by the announcement of the untimely death of G.R.L. singer Lauren Bennett, also known for being a member of Pussycat Dolls spinoff Paradiso Girls and providing vocals on LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’. As per the BBC, Bennett was just 36 when she died on May 29 (though her death has only now been made public) with G.R.L. saying on social media that “It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Lauren. Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us.” “Failed to treat her appropriately during her time of greatest need” The announcement of Bennett’s death didn’t explain how or why she died, but her father, Richard Bennett, has shared a tribute to her that indicates “deep disappointment” with her medical care. As a family, we all rallied around her and did everything we could to support her. We have no suspicions regarding the circumstances of her death, only deep disappointment that, for five months, medical professionals and NHS services failed to treat her appropriately during her time of greatest need.” It is unclear what the medication he referred to was and how she had an adverse reaction to it. He goes on to “kindly ask for privacy and respect as our family grieves.” The BBC reports that an inquest into the specifics of Bennett’s death will take place in October 2026. The doctors who treated her have not given any public comment. Bennett was born in Meopham, Kent, England, in 1989 and gained early attention as a contestant on the British version of The X-Factor. But it was with transatlantic pop band G.R.L. (Girls Rock Life) that she really made waves alongside bandmates Simone Battle, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, and Paula van Oppen. G.R.L. has already encountered tragedy before, with Simone Battle taking her own life in September 2014. The band reformed, vowing to “carry her memory with us in everything we do”. UnitedPop reports rumors that G.R.L. was planning to reform once again this year, though it’s unknown whether the remaining members will pursue this without Bennett. Her father added in his statement that he hopes she will be remembered for her music, saying: Lauren was deeply loved and will be missed every day for the rest of our lives. I hope she will be remembered for her remarkable achievements, her beautiful music, and the incredible person she was. Her legacy lives on through her daughter, her family, and through the music she leaves behind. … We are deeply grateful for the love, support, and kindness shown by friends, fans, and everyone else who has reached during this incredibly difficult time.” We can’t know the true cause of Bennett’s death, but in other sad news, a popular food influencer died from blood loss after it’s said she refused an ambulance twice during her home birth, and a 17-year-old beauty queen died from a cardiac episode and her family think energy drinks are to blame.
