There could be a new frontrunner in the race for Alfie Devine, as Tottenham’s asking price for the attacking midfielder comes to light.Devine had an outstanding spell at Preston North End last term, registering 14 goal contributions for the Championship club, and the attacking midfielder was expected to complete a permanent move to Deepdale. However, Preston’s £4.5m option to buy the Tottenham youngster permanently has now elapsed, thus opening the doors for other clubs to vie for the youngster.A number of outlets have reported over the last few days that Celtic are eyeing a move for Devine, and the Scottish club have now found out how much they have to pay for the Spurs academy graduate.Credit: Tom Cusden / @cusdenTottenham ready to sell Alfie Devine for cut-price fee to CelticJournalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that manager Martin O’Neill is the man driving the Scottish giants’ interest in the 21-year-old midfielder, with the Celtic boss having made several trips to watch the youngster at Preston last season.Tottenham are not expected to stand in Devine’s way if he wants to move to the Glasgow club, with the Lilywhites expected to demand around £4m-£6m for the player. When asked about Celtic’s interest in the attacking midfielder, O’Rourke told Football Insider: “He’s a player that obviously Celtic have been tracking for a while. Martin O’Neill and his coaching staff have made regular scouting trips to watch Devine in action for Preston last season. It does look like Tottenham would be willing to let him move on a permanent basis for the right offer.“Preston had an option to make that deal permanent for around £4.5 million, which hasn’t gone through yet, so that’s opened the door for Celtic to make a move or potentially hijack a deal. It would be a similar figure for Celtic, probably around £4-6million for Tottenham to let Devine move on this summer.“So I’m sure Martin O’Neill, if there’s an opportunity to sign something like Devine, it’s something that he would hope the club would go forward with because he ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic.”Spurs may repeat the Luka Vuskovic formula with DevineAccording to reports, Spurs have agreed to sell Luka Vuskovic to Brighton for £50m, and the Lilywhites have also retained a 20 per cent sell-on clause on the centre-back.The North Londoners may also seek to add either a sell-on or a buy-back clause for Devine as his potential is unquestionable, and he showed signs of coming of age last season. At 21 years of age, the attacking midfielder is now at the stage where he needs some continuity, which is why another loan move may not appeal to him. A discounted sale with a sizable sell-on clause may thus be the ideal solution for all parties involved.READ MORE: Tottenham confirm behind-closed-doors friendly against La Liga side after 18-year waitThe post Alfie Devine could play with Oxlade-Chamberlain next season if Tottenham accept £6m deal appeared first on Spurs Web.
