He was 89.In his career spanning over 35 years, Vaikunth served the Tamil Nadu police in various capacities. He served as the DGP of Tamil Nadu in 1995. He was a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for meritorious and distinguished service. Vaikunth is the author of the book ‘An Eye to Indian Policing — Challenge & Response’ which was published in both English and Tamil. Post-retirement, he was engaged in social and community service works focusing more on rehabilitation programmes for women prisoners and juvenile delinquents.He was an alumnus of P.S.
