The State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs and Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament, Joseph Kyofatogabye Kabuye, officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony, of the coffee park in Butalangu town councilThe construction of a Coffee Park worth 248 million dollars (UGX913.5bn) has been launched in Nakaseke District in a move expected to boost Uganda’s coffee exports through value addition.The Park is being developed by Nonda Commodities Limited in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Ingazi Group International. It is part of a bilateral initiative to produce branded, ready-to-consume coffee products.The facility is being established on 100 acres of land at Butalangu Village in Butalangu Town Council, Nakaseke District.Tonny Kibuuka Miiro, the proprietor of Nonda Commodities Limited, said construction of the processing plant and administrative buildings is expected to be completed within 24 months.Kibuuka said that once operational, the factory will have the capacity to process 42 metric tonnes of coffee annually for export, employing about 1,500 workers directly.Officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony, the State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs and Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament, Joseph Kyofatogabye Kabuye, said the project will create employment opportunities beyond the factory.He encouraged residents to embrace coffee growing to benefit from the readily available market that the processing plant will provide.Nakaseke District LCV Chairperson Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka described the project as the largest private investment in the district.He said the project is expected to accelerate urbanisation, improve social services and stimulate local economic growth.Besides coffee, the industrial park will also add value to cocoa and vanilla produced in Greater Luwero and neighboring districts.Of the total investment of $248 million, about $160 million (approximately shillings 589 billion) will be spent on the coffee value addition plant during the initial phase.The integrated processing plant will handle coffee cleaning, roasting, grinding and packaging before the finished products are exported to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern markets.According to Uganda’s latest export figures, the country exported 8.78 million bags of coffee in the 12 months ending April 2026, representing a 22 percent increase in export volumes.
