Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a critical and commercial success, but people are pissed with its pricy day one DLC

Wait 5 sec.

The exciting remake of one of Assassin’s Creed’s best games is now upon us, and while it’s a smash hit in some regards, it’s hard to ignore some other pretty glaring faults. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is likely a commercial success already (there’s around 100,000 players on the game on Steam) and a critical success too (it has an 84 Metacritic rating and Destructoid scored it a 9), but not everyone is happy: namely, many players on Steam reviews. Image via Ubisoft The remake of the 2013 classic currently sits at Mostly Negative on Steam, and a large portion of the angry reviews have to do with the game offering $85 worth of DLC alongside the game’s launch, and none of it was included in the $70 Deluxe Edition, either. There are nine DLC packs, ranging from $5 to $10 each, and they offer a variety of cosmetics…but some in-game shortcuts, too. The $85 DLC for a premium-priced game feels even worse given the fact that Ubisoft laid off a large number of developers who worked on the game last month, regardless of how well the game sells or reviews. These layoffs came across a variety of studios that collaborated on Black Flag Resynced, including Ubisoft Barcelona and Ubisoft Belgrade. The game is making money, DLC is being pushed out of the gates, and people are still losing their jobs. That doesn’t sit quite right, as even those who are enjoying the game can do so with the knowledge that those who worked hard on it are now out of a job for some reason. The game itself seems to be a triumphant return of one of the best AC entries, albeit far from perfect. Other Steam users are complaining about cutscenes being capped at 30 FPS, visual bugs, and performance issues. But instead of discussion centering on Edward Kenway and his pirate adventures, we’re instead left to talk about corporate greed. So it goes in 2026.0The post Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a critical and commercial success, but people are pissed with its pricy day one DLC appeared first on Destructoid.
