Revanth Reddy and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha launching the logo for the Young India Physical Education and Sports University, in Hyderabad, on Thursday.Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said if India would host Olympics in the near future, his dream was to see Hyderabad as a destination of the Olympics.Speaking at the inauguration of the Gachibowli Sports District and the Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU), the Chief Minister said the State government had adopted a comprehensive sports policy aimed at producing world-class athletes and positioning Telangana as a future venue for hosting all the games.Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president and former Indian athlete P T Usha joined him along with Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, TSAT Chairman Shivsena Reddy and other officials in launching the government’s prestigious programme “Telangana Sports Knowledge on Wheels” initiative on the occasion.Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha launching the logo for the Young India Physical Education and Sports University, in Hyderabad on Thursday.Setting an ambitious roadmap to transform Telangana into a leading sporting destination, Mr Revanth Reddy launched the initiative, and announced that the State will host several prestigious national and international sporting events over the next few years.Mr. Reddy said in the last 20 years, no major tournament was organised in Hyderabad and particularly in the last 10 years, the sports facilities turned into wedding halls and places to host entertainment events. “Compared to many countries, India continues to lag in international sporting events like the Olympics. The absence of a consistent sports policy over the years is one of the major reasons,” he said.He noted that sporting icons such as P.T. Usha earned national recognition through their achievements and eventually rose to prominent public positions, including membership of the Rajya Sabha. “Success in sports comes only through total dedication and hard work,” he said, urging young athletes to pursue excellence with commitment.He reiterated the government’s commitment to rewarding sporting excellence by providing cash incentives and government jobs to medal winners and outstanding athletes. He also announced that the Telangana Sports Academy would be established by December 2028.Speaking on the occasion, P.T. Usha described the establishment of the university as a landmark initiative that would significantly strengthen India’s sporting culture.
