Sullivan, Hall among young talents to watch in USMNT’s 2030 cycle

Wait 5 sec.

The U.S. Men’s National Team’s FIFA World Cup run has ended meaning the preparation to make the 2030 edition has already begun.A 4-1 Round of 16 loss to Belgium on Monday spelled the end for several players in the current squad, opening the door for many others to force their way into the mix this fall and beyond. While many of the current leaders such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Chris Richards will expect to be part of the next World Cup cycle, others may not find it as easy. Mauricio Pochettino’s future remains unknown despite a reported four-year extension already being proposed to the Argentine head coach. The 54-year-old enjoyed highs and endured lows at the helm, but it remains unclear if Pochettino truly wants to stay on for the next four years, or embark back to Europe for a club role. Prior to the 2030 FIFA World Cup beginning, the USMNT will have two editions of the CONCACAF Nations League, two CONCACAF Gold Cups, one Copa America to look forward to, in addition to a grueling qualifying schedule. Here is a closer look at several young talents to watch ahead of the new USMNT qualifying cycle:1.) Cavan SullivanThere is plenty of excitement surrounding 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan and rightfully so. The latest gem to come out of the Philadelphia Union academy, Sullivan is already earning first-team minutes in MLS. Since debuting for the first team in 2024 under Jim Curtin, Sullivan has continued to increase his production over each of the past two seasons. He’s contributed one goal and four assists in MLS play for the Union, remaining one of the team’s key bright spots in what has been a disappointing overall campaign for the club. Linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester City, Sullivan still has a long future ahead of him to fine-tune his game. 2.) Julian Hall2026 has been Julian Hall’s breakout year for the New York Red Bulls. Hall, 18, has scored nine goals and added four assists in 15 MLS appearances this season under former USMNT midfielder Michael Bradley. Despite being one of the smaller forwards in the league, Hall has continued to be a pest for opposing backlines.Hall is headed to his first MLS All-Star Game later this month and remains a top international prospect. Although he’s eligible for the Polish national team, Hall looks likely to be one of the newest debutants to the USMNT later this year. 3.) Adri Mehmeti17-year-old Adri Mehmeti has quickly put his name on the USMNT’s map.Joining Hall in the Red Bulls starting lineup, Mehmeti has also made 15 MLS appearances in what has been a key debut season. He’s scored one goal and added four assists in league play, providing a strong work rate on both ends of the field.A previous Under-15 national team player for the United States and Albania, Mehmeti could be one of the USMNT’s key leaders once Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, and others are all in the latter stages of the their careers. Should Metmeti keep up his production this summer/fall, we could very well see him on the move by winter time. 4.) Mathis AlbertA lively American attacker in the Borussia Dortmund ranks. Where have we heard this story before?17-year-old Mathis Albert is one of Borussia Dortmund’s highly-touted prospects heading into the 2026-27 European season. Albert made his first-team debut last season for the Black and Yellow, but has mainly applied his craft with Dortmund II and the Under-19’s over the past two seasons. He’s scored 14 goals in 30 appearances to date for Dortmund’s U-19 squad while also excelling in the UEFA Youth League. It will be interesting to see how Niko Kovac uses Albert this season as Borussia Dortmund features in multiple competitions. Albert teamed up with the aforementioned Sullivan at the FIFA U-20 World Cup last year and is a dynamic wide player that the USMNT could certainly use. 5.) Noahkai BanksTim Ream’s time with the USMNT looks to be ending, opening the door for a No. 2 centerback to join Chris Richards for the future. Hello Noahkai Banks.Banks, 19, already has 31 first-team appearances under his belt at German club Augsburg and looks set to remain a key piece of the squad again this season. A former U.S. Under-17, U-19, and U-20 player, Banks is also eligible to represent the German national team, a decision that he has yet to make, and one that has led to worry from USMNT fans. Banks was urged to be part of the USMNT World Cup squad this summer but reportedly turned down a call-up last March. Should Banks decide to choose the USMNT, he has all the abilities to be a long-term starter in the squad. However, if he picks Germany, it will be the latest young talent to escape U.S. Soccer in recent years. 6.) Zavier GozoDiego Luna is one Real Salt Lake player that will be eager to get into the USMNT’s plans this fall and Zavier Gozo is the other. Gozo, 19, is in the midst of his second full season with RSL and has already eclipsed his goal contributions from a year ago. He has tallied six goals and contributed five assists in 14 appearances (14 stats) in Pablo Mastroeni’s squad, bringing a physical presence to the attacking third. Gozo has worked his way up through the USYNT ranks and already has featured twice for the Under-23’s, a team he will aim to be with for the 2028 Summer Olympics. After not being part of the World Cup set up this summer, it’s likely we see Gozo as early as September when the USMNT gets back to action. 7.) Diego Kochen With both Matt Freese and Matt Turner set to be in their 30’s by the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the USMNT may be looking at younger options at the goalkeeper position. 20-year-old Diego Kochen is an intriguing prospect that is still seeking his first-team minutes at club level. Kochen is on loan this season at Danish Superliagen club Lyngby from La Liga giants Barcelona. After making 37 appearances to date for Barca Atletic, Kochen will now have a great opportunity to compete for a No. 1 job and play weekly at Lyngby. The Miami-born Kochen has also worked his way through the USYNT ranks and will be fighting to part of the Olympic roster in two years’ time. 8.) Cole CampbellBorussia Dortmund may not have given Cole Campbell a consistent first-team opportunity but it did allow him to compete alongside many top youth talents. Campbell is now an Elversberg player after joining the club in a permanent deal from Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old winger/midfielder most recently spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim, but only made five appearances for the first team. A former Icelandic youth national team player, Campbell switched his allegiance to the United States in 2024 and was also part of the USMNT U-20 roster that featured at the FIFA U-20 World Cup last year. Elversberg should give Campbell a great opportunity to develop his game while racking up top-flight minutes in the process. 9.) Rokas PukstasAnother American midfielder seeking his USMNT debut this fall is Oklahoma-born Rokas Pukstas. Pukstas has continued to be a consistent starter for Croatian top-flight side Hajduk Split, where he’s amassed over 130 appearances for the club. Pukstas has totaled 23 goals and nine assists for Hajduk, where he remains one of the younger players in the squad. Remaining linked with newly-promoted English Premier League side Hull City, Pukstas has mainly featured for the USMNT U-20’s, U-21’s and U-23’s over the past few years. A talented and hardworking midfielder, Pukstas is overdue for a senior look. 10.) Peyton Miller 2026 may mark Peyton Miller’s last season in MLS and that is a testament to his stellar work to date with the New England Revolution. The 18-year-old fullback/midfielder played in 26 MLS matches during the 2025 campaign and has already scored three goals in 12 appearances this year. A dynamic two-way player, Miller has already featured for the USMNT U-23’s and has previous FIFA U-17 World Cup experience under his belt. Miller is already being linked with a European move and could have it by season’s end, should the Revolution decide to sell. Who are you most excited to see make their USMNT debut in 2026 or beyond?
