Disney Guests Face Immediate ‘Star Wars’ Virtual Queue Changes

Disney has unveiled changes for its Star Wars virtual queue.Star Wars has become a huge part of Disney’s theme parks over the years. Its presence stretches from Star Tours, which first opened at Disneyland in 1987, to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the immersive Batuu lands now found at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.Credit: DisneyGalaxy’s Edge raised the stakes with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance, while lightsaber workshops, droid-building, and themed food extended the experience beyond the rides. Disneyland also expanded the land’s timeline earlier this year to incorporate original trilogy characters such as Darth Vader, Leia Organa, and Han Solo.Virtual queues initially played a major role in managing demand, particularly when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened with mandatory boarding groups. Those systems have since been removed from the Star Wars attractions, with guests now using conventional standby lines or paid Lightning Lane access instead.Credit: DisneyHowever, one Star Wars feature has retained its virtual queue – until this week.Disney Drops ‘Star Wars’ Virtual QueueEffective this week, Disney has dropped the virtual queue for Starport.Starport offers “an out-of-this-world Character Encounter with a famous face from across the galaxy” in Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris. This is typically Darth Vader. The Star Wars meet and greet location in Discoveryland has been removed from the Virtual Queue on the official Disneyland Paris app. You can now join the classic queue again for Starport.#DisneylandParis The Star Wars meet and greet location in Discoveryland has been removed from the Virtual Queue on the official Disneyland Paris app. You can now join the classic queue again for Starport.#DisneylandParis pic.twitter.com/k2h77Z3E31— Pixie Dust DLP (@PixiedustDLP) July 10, 2026Guests previously had to utilize a virtual queue to secure a slot at Starport. The meet-and-greet is now accessible via a regular standby queue.Virtual queues have been applied to Starport on and off over the years. In January, readded the Star Wars virtual queue after previously axing it in November. Before that, Disney had made Starport accessible via virtual queue in June 2025.Other character meet-and-greets – including Woody (Toy Story), Meet Mickey Mouse, Princess Pavilion, Hero Training Center, and Rencontre Royale with Anna & Elsa – currently retain their virtual queues. Guests can enter these queues via the Disneyland Paris app.Credit: Steven Miller, FlickrVirtual queues have long frustrated Disney guests because they remove the certainty and spontaneity of simply joining a physical line. When the likes of Rise of the Resistance, TRON Lightcycle / Run, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind used the system at Walt Disney World Resort, boarding groups could disappear within seconds, leaving unsuccessful guests unable to ride that day.The process also forces visitors to plan around fixed release times and unpredictable return windows. Guests have previously set alarms for 7 a.m. drops for attractions such as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, then repeatedly checked the app while touring the park. Missing a release could mean rearranging an entire day or paying for Lightning Lane instead. What do you think of virtual queues? The post Disney Guests Face Immediate ‘Star Wars’ Virtual Queue Changes appeared first on Inside the Magic.
