Lens have reportedly sacked manager Dino Toppmoller after just four league games following a bust-up behind the scenes.Toppmoller replaced Pierre Sage in the dugout in June after the former boss left his position to join Crystal Palace.Sage has left Lens after his assistant was let go by the Ligue 1 sideAFPHowever, his tenure in charge of the club has already come to an end, despite his side winning in three of his six matches.According to reports in France, Toppmoller has lost his job at Lens after his assistant Nelson Morgado was dismissed.Morgado had worked with the German since 2017 and was one of his closest connections, having teamed up at Eintracht Frankfurt too.But the assistant is reported to have been demanding more commitment and passion from the French members of Lens’ staff, which made them uncomfortable.And that led to his exit earlier this week – but following that news, manager Toppmoller has also left the club.Why have Lens sacked Toppmoller?Toppmoller is reported to have stood in solidarity for Morgado and found his coach’s dismissal unacceptable.German outlet BILD claims he argued with the club about their direct interference with his team of staff.That bust-up seems to have led to his sacking, rather than it being anything to do with results. He left his previous role at Frankfurt in January after just under three years at the Bundesliga club.The 45-year-old took charge of 121 games for them, winning 51 in all competitions and taking them to the Champions League.Before that, Toppmoller hadn’t had much of a managerial career, getting the Frankfurt job after working as an assistant to Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.As a player, he was on Manchester City‘s books in 2001, but played most of his football in the German lower leagues.Now, he is going to be on the lookout for another job after seemingly taking a stand that has led to his sacking at Lens.
