But he knows exactly how he won his now-wife’s heart in the weeks that followed.Blanco appeared on Today’s Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist, who asked him how he did it. “Men, listen up,” the music producer replied. “Okay, first of all, I gotta be the poster child for the guy you gotta listen to. Look at me; I have the most beautiful wife in the world. I did it, and I didn’t use black magic or anything. I just was nice.”That entails “understanding your partner, and being able to talk about things, and have an open dialogue,” he shared. “We’re in a really good spot, and I’m very fortunate. And I think, again, like, not being a dick and being nice to people put her into my orbit at the right time.”Blanco recently spoke more about their connection on The Mel Robbins Podcast and how thankful he was to have been friends first. “I always think those are the best type of relationships, when you’re friends with someone and you know them, and then once you are there, it’s like there’s not too much to learn,” he said. “It’s always so scary starting a new relationship. It’s like being with a new therapist. It’s like, ‘Ugh, I gotta tell...I was already with someone. They know my backstory. What, I gotta catch you up to 38 years of speed?’ So it’s like, she already knew; she knew me at—obviously didn’t know me deeply like that—but she knew me, and there was a rapport there. So it made it easy and comfortable.”He also made a list of what he was looking for with his therapist prior to their romance starting. “I said, ‘I really wanna find the right partner, and I’m doing something wrong. I can’t find the person that I’m gonna spend the rest of my life with, and I want to do that,’” he recalled. “And we came up with some guidelines and a list.”That list included someone age-appropriate, “nice, caring, compassionate, like someone who’s a nice person,” he said. “The third thing on my list was I wanted someone who woke up generally happy. Like who did, or who wasn’t so sad when they woke up. And if they were sad, they were doing something about it. They were going to therapy; they were taking medicine if they need to; they were doing yoga.” He made a list of five to six broad things, stuck to it, and found Gomez.“You’re essentially trying to find your best friend, okay?” he said of the search for the one more broadly. “Does that person make you laugh? Can you be fine staying home and not going out with any of your friends and not having FOMO because you’re with the best person in the world? ’Cause I know I can. I know I could let everything else in the world happen, and it doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter; I’m with my best friend.”
