Police have officially confirmed an ongoing investigation concerning some of the jurors who served in the Yorgen Fenech trial, clarifying for the first time what investigators are examining. In a statement issued following several media reports, police said the investigation is linked to the oath taken by jurors before the trial began.According to police, investigators are focusing exclusively on declarations made at that stage, specifically public comments which some jurors may allegedly have made before the trial.Police stressed that the investigation “is not about any other theory or allegation” which may have subsequently been reported by the media. The clarification follows Lovin Malta’s report yesterday that three or more jurors had been arrested and questioned, with sources indicating that possible perjury and suspected irregularities were being investigated. Sources had said two jurors were questioned over social media activity they reportedly did not recall when declaring under oath that they had not publicly expressed themselves about the case.Fenech was cleared earlier this month by an 8-1 jury verdict of both charges against him in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.Police have now appealed for caution and prudence in reporting the investigation, warning against speculation which could prejudice their ongoing work.•
