Her husband, Benny Blanco, documented his whereabouts on Instagram, posting a Reel at Harvard Business School promoting his new book, F*ck Failure. The fifth season of Gomez’s show Only Murders in the Building is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, with the actress being recognized for her work as a producer. She spent her summer filming season 6 in London.Blanco took a boat to Europe to join her there for a special Italy birthday trip in July.In just a few weeks, on September 27, the couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary, which happens to be the same day as the MTV VMAs. Neither Blanco nor Gomez is nominated for that ceremony, which means they could celebrate out of the public eye.In July, Blanco spoke to El País’s Icon magazine about the early stages of their relationship. The couple started dating over half a year before Gomez went public with it in December 2023. She gave him the option to step away, knowing how her fame would change his life.He explained in the Spanish interview, “We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months. And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends.’ And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it.’ We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love.”Prior to that, his own fame as a music producer grew very slowly, he added. “It was between 2018 and 2019 [that I started getting recognized],” he said. “I released my song [‘Eastside,’ his first solo track] and it became really popular. So I started to get a little bit famous. And from there, things got really intense. I remember talking to my manager and telling him I wanted to slow things down a bit. That same month I started dating Selena. Then it was like what I was going through got a rocket boost: I was launched into the air. She’s been dealing with this her whole life, so it’s something we have to face together.”During an April episode of his Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Blanco revealed that even Gomez is impressed with his ability to handle internet commentary about him. “Selena will come to me, and she’ll be like, ‘I can’t believe how well you can [cope]’—she’s like, ‘I’ll see things, and I’ll want to write back in the comments about things,’” he said. “[But] I have a very unique perspective. For me, I became really big in a certain field when I was 17, 18 years old. I’d been doing it publicly since I was a kid. Then I got to help all these other stars get their thing going. I didn’t become famous until 2020. So it’s only been like six years for me.”
