Police have arrested 12 teenagers accused of assaulting a fellow student in an incident captured on video near Kibuli Mosque.The roughly 10-second video, which has circulated widely on social media, shows a group of youths surrounding a teenager and cutting off his escape routes before one of them punches him into unconsciousness.One of the youths, wearing a red shirt and standing near a wall, is seen punching the teenager, causing him to fall face-down into what appears to be a waterlogged drainage channel.The victim remains motionless in the mud for several seconds before the group disperses in different directions. Following the circulation of the video, police at Kabalagala Police Division launched investigations on Thursday to identify those involved and establish the circumstances surrounding the assault.The teens were captured assaulting a fellow studentKampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred at about 6 pm on September 13, 2026, in Nakibinge Zone, Kibuli, within Makindye Division.A police officer attached to Kabalagala Police Division said the 12 suspects were arrested during operations conducted on Thursday and into Friday morning, with the final arrests made at about 2 am in Nakibinge Zone following an intelligence-led operation.Kawala said the prime suspect is 16 years old, while the other suspects are also minors aged between 14 and 17. The victim, who is also 16, is receiving medical treatment at his mother’s residence in the same locality.Police said investigations are still underway to establish what triggered the confrontation and whether the incident was a street fight or an attempted robbery. Investigators are also working to establish the individual role of each of the 12 suspects in the assault.The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. Kawala described the incident as unfortunate and said police would ensure that the suspects are dealt with in accordance with the law governing juvenile offenders.“We condemn acts of violence, particularly those involving minors.
