Magnum Research has a new Desert Eagle, and you won't lose this one in the safe. The NRA Blue Desert Eagle is a .50 AE pistol made exclusively for Chattanooga Shooting Supplies. It carries the model number DE50NB and an MSRP of $2,186. Blue Cerakote covers the frame and slide, while the six-inch barrel stays brushed stainless steel and the controls are matte black. Subtle it isn't, but subtle was never part of the Desert Eagle sales pitch. Still a Desert Eagle underneathMagnum Research hasn't announced any mechanical changes for the blue model. It uses the familiar gas-operated action and rotating bolt, a setup quite different from the recoil-operated actions found in most semi-automatic pistols. The DE50NB also has an integral muzzle brake, fixed combat-style sights, and a Picatinny-style optics rail on top of the barrel.Pay attention when shopping for an optic mount. Magnum Research says the barrel rail accepts single-slot mounts only. Dual-slot mounts won't fit because of the slot spacing. Better to catch that before opening a box of rings at the workbench.The DE50NB is 10.75 inches long and 6.25 inches tall, with a slide width of 1.25 inches. It ships with Hogue finger-groove wraparound rubber grips and one seven-round magazine. Chattanooga serves independent dealers, so buyers will need to ask a local gun shop about ordering one instead of trying to buy directly from the distributor.The announcement gives no production total, shipping schedule, or inventory figure. For now, the reason to choose the DE50NB over another .50 AE Desert Eagle is straightforward: you want the blue one.
