Johanna Walsh (Sea The Stars), the impressive winner of this year's Irish Oaks at the Curragh, is the latest Group 1 performer to join the star-studded cast set to be offered at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, which takes place from Monday, November 30 to Thursday, December 3.The Joseph O'Brien-trained filly will go through the ring as part of the fifth edition of the Sceptre Sessions, becoming only the second winner of the Irish Oaks to be offered at the December Mares Sale in the same year as her Classic success in more than 40 years. The first was You Got To Me (Nathaniel), who sold for 4.8 millions gns when headlining the Sceptre Sessions in 2024.A dual winner from six career starts in the colours of owner Wells Watson, Johanna Walsh opened her account at the third attempt in May this year when winning a Leopardstown maiden by over three lengths, before heading to Royal Ascot where she was beaten just a head in the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes. She then enjoyed her finest hour at the Curragh when powering clear of her nine rivals to dominate the Irish Oaks, beating Inis Mor by four lengths, with the subsequent G1 Yorkshire Oaks runner-up Sparan Nua back in third.“Johanna Walsh is an immensely talented filly that Carriganóg Racing have the privilege of training on behalf of her owner Wells Watson,” said O'Brien. “She is a beautiful athlete and has been from the first day she entered our yard and should only improve as a four-year-old. She gifted us our first win in the Irish Oaks and should attract plenty of interest from the world's leading racing and breeding operations.”Johanna Walsh is one of four winners from as many runners out of the Dawn Approach mare Miss Aiglonne, a half-sister to the G1 Prix d'Ispahan-winning sire Mekhtaal. Her second dam, the G3 Prix Fille de l'Air heroine Aiglonne (Silver Hawk), has also produced the GIII Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes and GIII Long Island Handicap scorer Aigue Marine (Galileo); the G3 Prix Thomas Bryon winner and G1 Criterium International runner-up Normandy Bridge (Le Havre); and the G2 Prix Hocquart winner Democrate (Dalakhani).Tattersalls managing director Matthew Prior added, “Tattersalls is immensely proud to be in the rare position of offering a Classic-winning filly in the same year as her triumph. Johanna Walsh was an emphatic winner of the Group 1 Irish Oaks, and we are grateful to Wells Watson for giving Tattersalls the opportunity to present such an exceptional filly to the market.“The Sceptre Sessions is a fitting stage for a filly of this calibre, and we look forward to showcasing her to the biggest names within the bloodstock world, who descend on Park Paddocks each December.“The line-up of quality fillies and mares heading to the Sceptre Sessions continues to gather momentum, and we eagerly anticipate another outstanding renewal of this special sale.”The post Irish Oaks Winner Johanna Walsh Joins Line-Up for Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
