The World Grand Prix Darts is a format like no other and Luke Littler is hoping to win it again – even though he dislikes the event. The double-in, double-out format is a challenge for darts players and allows for surprise champions such as Mike De Decker’s title run in 2024 and the Dirk van Duijvenbode final in 2020.Littler needs to win the tournament to secure a clean sweepGettyLuke Littler won the previous edition and is currently the favourite to win this year; however, the tournament allows for anything to happen. The world champion is the current title holder of all of the top events in darts, including the Premier League, the World Matchplay and the Grand Slam.In 2026, the 19-year-old has looked unbeatable and will need to win a tricky World Grand Prix Darts Trophy to secure the clean sweep he wants to achieve.World Grand Prix Darts: How does it work? The tournament requires players to start and finish on a double to get their scoring started during a leg.Despite winning the event last year, Littler has notoriously admitted he ‘didn’t like’ the rules and labelled it one of the ‘toughest tournaments.’The format allows for players to meet in set-play matches, with each set being the best of five legs.Players have to qualify by being seeded in the top 16, with Luke Litter currently world No1 and Nathan Aspinall No16.The other 16 players have to qualify through the Pro Tour Order for the remaining 16 spots – including Cameron Menzies, Rob Cross, and Ryan Joyce.World Grand Prix Darts: Where to watchThe World Grand Prix starts on Monday, September 28 through to Sunday, October 4.It is being held at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester.De Decker stunned the darts world to win the World Grand Prix in 2024GettytalkSPORT and talkSPORT.com will have all of the latest news, reaction and updates from the event.Listen talkSPORT through the website or find us on DAB digital radio through your smart speaker and on 1089 or 1053 AM.Download and listen to all our live commentaries via the talkSPORT app, whilst talkSPORT is also available to watch on Samsung TV Plus.Subscribe to the talkSPORT YouTube channel for news, views and analysis plus our regular goals show and for more, follow us on talkSPORT Facebook and talkSPORT on X.For the latest odds and bet boosts for every big event, visit talkSPORT BET.Sky Sports will also be showing the tournament throughout the week.Humphries will hope to win for the first time in 2026GettyWorld Grand Prix Darts: ScheduleMonday September 28 – From 6pmRound OneDanny Noppert v Niko SpringerRoss Smith v Cameron MenziesNathan Aspinall v Kevin DoetsJonny Clayton v Krzysztof RatajskiGerwyn Price v Sebastian BialeckiMichael van Gerwen v Ryan JoyceLuke Littler v Luke WoodhouseWessel Nijman v Rob CrossTuesday September 29 – From 6pmRound OneChris Dobey v Jermaine WattimenaRyan Searle v William O’ConnorJosh Rock v Niels ZonneveldJames Wade v Joe CullenGary Anderson v Damon HetaGian van Veen v Dirk van DuijvenbodeLuke Humphries v Dave ChisnallStephen Bunting v Andrew GildingWednesday September 30 – From 7pmRound Two – Order of Play TBCLittler/Woodhouse v Aspinall/DoetsNoppert/Springer v Van Gerwen/JoycePrice/Bialecki v Smith/MenziesClayton/Ratajski v Nijman/CrossThursday October 1 – From 7pmRound Two – Order of Play TBCHumphries/Chisnall v Dobey/WattimenaRock/Zonneveld v Anderson/HetaVan Veen/Van Duijvenbode v Searle/O’ConnorWade/Cullen v Bunting/GildingFriday October 2 – From 7pmQuarter-FinalsSaturday October 3 – From 8pmSemi-FinalsSunday October 4 – From 8pmFinalWhy doesn’t Littler like it?Littler has previously mentioned he is not a fan of the tournament’s structure.Reflecting on the challenge, he said: “I’ll be honest, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the double start.“I think it’s obviously one of the toughest tournaments to win, with the Worlds, the Matchplay, the Premier League. But the double start: if you don’t get off [to a good start], then you’re in trouble.“I can’t say I really practice the double start often but obviously leading up to it I think I’ll have to, just get used to it. Every year we’ll see someone hit a treble 20 first out and then they forget.“It’ll be tough but we’ve still got plenty of darts to play.”
