Hostel warden caught taking ₹14,000 bribe to overlook six days’ absence - The HinduUpdated - September 18, 2026 06:43 pm IST - HYDERABADBukya Velusimha, a warden/record assistant at the ST Boys Hostel in Palvancha, and also in-charge of the ST Boys Hostel at Satyanarayanapuram in Charla mandal.A warden of an ST Boys Hostel in Bhadradri Kothagudem district was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday while allegedly accepting a ₹14,000 bribe to overlook six days of a complainant’s absence from work.The accused, Bukya Velusimha, works as a warden/record assistant at the ST Boys Hostel in Palvancha and is also in-charge of the ST Boys Hostel at Satyanarayanapuram in Charla mandal.According to the ACB, Velusimha allegedly demanded money from the complainant for not marking her six days of absence during August as unauthorised. He allegedly assured her that the absence would not lead to adverse consequences in her service or cause problems in the preparation of her salary bills in future.The ACB said Velusimha initially demanded ₹15,000. Following negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹14,000.Acting on the complaint, officials of the ACB’s Khammam Range unit laid a trap at the ST Boys Hostel in Satyanarayanapuram village and caught him while he allegedly accepted the money. ₹14,000 was recovered from his possession, the agency said.Chemical tests conducted on both his hands yielded positive results, according to the ACB.Velusimha was arrested and is being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Warangal.
