II PU exam, marks card fee and others up by 50% from this academic year in Karnataka - The HinduPublished - September 19, 2026 10:05 pm IST - BengaluruThe fee for admission for exams has gone up from ₹400 to ₹ 600. | Photo Credit: FILE PHOTOAfter almost eight years, the examination fee, admission fee for examination, marks card fee and others for II PU students in both government and private colleges across the State has been increased by 50%.The government order stated that the Department of Pre-University Education and Karnataka State Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) had proposed to increase the exam and other related fees.A KSEAB official said, “The exam fee hike was proposed two years ago and it was not increased for various reasons. The same fee has continued since 2018. Now that the paper and printing costs have increased, the fee had to go up too.”With this hike, the fee for admission for exams has gone up from ₹400 to ₹ 600, the migration fee has increased from ₹480 to ₹720. Repeaters must pay ₹210 instead of ₹140 for one subject, ₹405 instead of ₹270 for two subjects, ₹600 instead of ₹400 for three subjects. Meanwhile, the exam fee for practical exams has increased from ₹ 110 to ₹165 for one subject.For the first time, the department has included fee for II PU marks card verification for Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and for foreign universities, which is ₹2,000.Students are not pleased with the move. Karthik M, studying in the Government PU college in Rajajinagar, said, “My father and mother are flower vendors and this hike is going to burden us.Likitha, a student at a private college in Vasanth Nagar, said, “My father is a private bus driver and my mother is a homemaker. Amidst financial constraints, they have admitted me to private college where my fee is ₹95,000 per year. Increasing exam fee, marks card fee by almost 50% is burden to my parents. As private college student, I cannot even oppose or request the administration to wait until I pay the fee.”Meanwhile, there is demand to increase the evaluation fee from lecturers. A.H. Ningegowda, President, PU Lecturers Association, said, “The salary for evaluation depends on the number of papers evaluated. For one answer script evaluation, it is ₹36, which has remained the same for five years.
