New LPVOs are always welcome, and Element Optics shows up here with their Helix HD 1-8x24. This is a new low-power variable optic built for hunting and tactical use at close to intermediate ranges. The scope joins the existing Helix HD family, which up to this point has centered on higher magnification hunting scopes like the 2-16x50 and the 2-12x42 Compact. This is the company’s first entry into true LPVO territory. The Helix HD 1-8x24 uses an L4A reticle with fiber optic illumination, intended to provide a fine, bright aim point across a range of lighting conditions. Illumination brightness is adjusted through an 11-step rotary dial. Element Optics states the scope carries 92 percent light transmission, and the company points to a large field of view and a forgiving eye box as characteristics of the optical system. The choice of reticle leads me to think that hunters are their main priority. This is a classical hunting reticle, at least in Europe. Both the windage and elevation turrets are capped and each turret adjusts at 6 MRAD per revolution. As with the rest of the Helix lineup, the 1-8x24 is backed by Element Optics' Platinum Lifetime Warranty.
