In a statement in June 2026, Apple TV’s head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the show’s creator, Katie Dippold, director Hiro Murai, and star Matthew Rhys.“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro [Murai], Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Cherniss. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”Who will be in the cast of Widow’s Bay season 2?The cast in the second season will likely include Rhys returning as Mayor Loftis, Kate O’Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Neil Casey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Stephen Root. Jeff Hiller, meanwhile, was promoted to series regular in August 2026.Dippold hinted at which actors will get more screen time in season 2 in an August 2026 interview with Collider. “Definitely want to have way more Bechir. Kevin Carroll is a great actor and he’s so funny. Definitely want to see some Jeff Hiller, Dale, point of view,” she said. “Absolutely some more Rosemary backstory. So that makes Season 2 so fun in the room.”Murai added, “I have a real weird soft spot for Garrett (Fred Robbins), the lighthouse worker. I don’t even know if he says much in the first season, but I just think he has a really rich full life that we don’t know about, and I’m looking forward to hearing from him a little more.”When will season 2 of Widow’s Bay premiere?There’s no set date yet. But creator Katie Dippold is excited to get started. In an interview with Vulture, she said, “I want the show to come back as soon as possible,” adding there’s “no reason for it to be more than two years” and that it could potentially be much sooner. Dippold started working on it already and the show’s writers’ room “will start very soon.”“Then we have to see how soon after we can start shooting,” she said. “But everyone’s moving as fast as we can.”Has production on Widow’s Bay season 2 started?Not yet. In July 2026, Dippold spoke at San Diego Comic-Con, saying that the writers’ room had assembled. After sharing that she found out the show was renewed pretty much the same moment the public did, Dippold said that the team had started working on the show two weeks earlier.“It’s a great room, and then we’re going to be writing for the next 20 weeks,” Dippold shared, adding that she is hoping they’ll start filming in 2027.In a September 2026 interview with ScreenRant, O’Flynn hinted that the show will likely start filming in Q1 of next year. “I know it’s hopefully March time, I think, we might be filming season 2,” she told the outlet. “But I don’t know anything else about it, honestly.”What will season 2 of Widow’s Bay be about?In the penultimate episode of season 1, Mayor Tom Loftis discovers that the last living relative of Richard Warren is his elderly secretary, Ruth. Back in the 1700s, Warren made a deal with the evil animus of the island to bring food and mild winters, but it came with a price. The island is full of boogeymen, hags, and murderous clowns. On top of that, no one born on the island can leave it without deadly consequences.Warren believed that when his bloodline ended, so would the agreement and thus the hauntings. With the island’s population and a number of tourists locked in the storm cellar as the weather rages, Tom has to decide if Ruth’s life is more important than everyone else in town, including his teenage son, Evan—who was born there and can’t leave.The finale opens with Tom approaching Ruth in her home. She thinks he’s there to take her to the shelter. She offers to make them some tea before they go, and he sees a perfect opportunity to mix up her medications in her drink and put an end to it all. But during their conversation, a few things are revealed. One, Ruth is an upstanding citizen in Widow’s Bay. And two, she had a secret baby. That means Ruth isn’t the final Warren. Her baby became the woman Tom married and had a child with. Which means that Evan is the final person between the town and the end of a curse.Meanwhile, at the shelter, things are bleak. The food and water set aside for emergencies are inedible and it’s too crowded. The teens, including Evan, get into mischief, discovering the ominous chair in front of a bolted door that was hinted at in the very first episode.And Dale discovers a series of films outlining how the townsfolk used to regularly sacrifice one another to keep the evil spirit of the island at bay. And the sacrifice room sure looks like where Evan and his friends are. When they’re busted by the janitor, he gets locked inside the room as Evan struggles to open the door. When it finally does open, the janitor is gone and the storm has stopped.The next day, under calm skies, Tom throws the heirloom brooch connecting Ruth and Evan to the Warrens out to sea. He and Evan then hear the church bell toll, supposedly a message from the island for how many souls it wants to be satisfied.In season 2, there will likely be more explorations of the island’s history, the origin of its evil core, and the general wackiness of the town’s inhabitants. And exactly how far Tom Loftis will go to protect his son.Will there be Widow’s Bay spin-offs?Dippold reflected on the possibility of expanding the island’s universe during her Comic-Con appearance.“If people are leaning into this place, then you could potentially do other stories down the road of what has happened in the past,” she said, comparing it to bottle episodes of Parks and Rec, where she worked previously. A reference to “the ridiculous past that Widow’s Bay has” could be much more, even a miniseries.“Creatively, that sounds very fun to do,” she mused.This post will be updated.
