Chipotle has done something very interesting, hired Palantir. On the surface, it seems understandable. Palantir provides its foundry service that can assist with crunching data in an expanding business. Chipotle, specifically, is piloting it to help collect different data points across food safety-related reporting and assess risk for specific locations. The issue comes with what started last year. The countless questionable, and at times illegal, ICE raids. Detainment of not only illegal immigrants, but also legal migrants. ICE utilized the strategy of detain first, ask questions later. With a clear target of brown people, where else to go find some to harass than Chipotle workers? Something like that right? And of course, the technology that made it easier for ICE to carry out these actions was the service on the government (Gotham) side of Palantir’s business. It got so bad that Chipotle had to issue a directive to its managers, stating that we were within our right to not allow ICE into locations and call for help if the situation escalated. Because Chipotle supports its employees! So why is it that Chipotle has now partnered with the very company that has been in complete lockstep with an entity blatantly discriminating against its very employees? This partnership has been kept under the table (you cannot find any reporting on it). So I’m guessing Chipotle knows its employees would be pissed off if they knew about this partnership.
