I ask what I can get started for you, and you answer with "White". Yes, that is what I am. Oh, you meant white rice. Sure, open up your hands. Or did you want that in a bowl? A burrito? As one of the sides in your kids' build-it-yourself meal? In a salad? In some tacos? Indigestion? We walk together, down tortilla. Brown beans? Pinto -- no, you meant the black beans? I guess they look brown, maybe, if you squint, and you're standing behind the sneeze guard, and please don't reach over the sneeze guard to point at stuff. Steak and barbacoa? Half and half or double? Double? Okay. Yes, that is double. I have a manager who will take a hit out on me if I give you more than that, so that is double. We've made it all the way down to salsa. You ask me for extra cheese, no guac, as much lettuce as I can give you. Oh, and lots of sour cream. And then, a bit of extra rice. You're so lucky I'm the only one ever on line for some reason; at least I don't have to ask anybody to step away from their 3 bowls ordered by one guy (all of which have a different protein and come with a side tortilla) as I awkwardly slide your burrito all the way back down to tortilla. Or maybe it's actually unfortunate that I'm the only one on line, because standing right behind you are 35 more customers, and you had to watch me painstakingly serve 30 before you. If you could all look away, I would very much appreciate it; I don't need 36 people watching me try to wrap this burrito like a surgeon trying to keep a wound shut. Cash should be here with you eventually. They could've quit, I don't know. I've seen 5 people quit in the span of 3 weeks, and I'm about to be the sixth. I would take over the register, but my manager just came out and told me I need to take out the trash, change the sani-buckets, wipe down line, and sweep the kitchen and dining area floors, all in the next 15 minutes so that I can clock out right at the end of the hour.
