CAB3 didn't just push ED's term to 2030 — it took the direct vote away from citizens and handed it to Parliament instead. That's not democracy slipping, that's democracy being switched off on purpose. NK doesn't have real elections either. We're catching up. Our leader now has a royal title and a national holiday built around his own birthday. September 15 is officially "Munhumutapa Day," named after precolonial Shona kings, and it happens to land on ED's birthday. Kim Jong-un gets statues and mandatory celebrations. We got a king's title and a public holiday for one man. Criticise any of this and you go to jail. A Chiredzi man spent two nights locked up over a video calling out ED and businessman Wicknell Chivayo for demolishing vendor stalls that left families with no income. Chivayo, known for giving away luxury cars, faces nothing. The man who called him out spent his nights in a cell. The demolitions haven't stopped either — St Martins, Epworth, Chiredzi, sometimes without even a court order. NK doesn't ask before deciding where you're allowed to live. We're being shown our homes aren't fully ours anymore. Take the vote away, crown the leader, jail the critics, bulldoze the powerless. That's not a democracy having a rough patch.
