Investigations revealed severe blockages in the major blood vessels on the left side of the brain, indicating an acute ischemic stroke requiring immediate intervention.As the patient was in the final stage of pregnancy, the treatment posed additional challenges, according to a release by the doctors. The Neuro and Vascular Intervention team performed an emergency mechanical thrombectomy to remove the blood clot blocking the brain artery.During the procedure and subsequent recovery, the obstetrics team led by senior gynaecologist Dr. Pavani Manikya Palepu closely monitored both the mother and the foetus. Once cerebral blood flow was restored and the patient’s neurological condition stabilised, the team planned the timing and mode of delivery. A Caesarean section was subsequently performed and the woman delivered a healthy baby boy.Dr. Venkatesh Pothula said that large-vessel ischemic stroke during pregnancy was uncommon but could be life-threatening, particularly when it occurred in the final stages of pregnancy.The doctors stated that symptoms of stroke during pregnancy require immediate medical attention and should not be delayed because of the pregnancy.Published - September 17, 2026 08:40 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
